An improved variable venturi carburetor including one or more improved features such as one or more air valve(s) comprising fuel discharge orifices, upstream of one or more throttle(s); backfire protection means in the air valve(s); layered construction of the air valve(s); overhead biasing means for the air valve(s), with or without related air valve(s) positioning means which may, for instance, assist in enrichment of the fuel air mixture during starting; an arm and ramp fuel metering arrangement interconnected, preferably directly, with an internal bore on a shaft which supports the air valve(s) means for rotation, through which the fuel may be directed from the pickup arm to the discharge orifices in or on the air valve means; ball valve means in the end of the pickup arm bearing against the ramp to assist in minimizing deviations in the fuel/discharge gap resulting from differential expansion; composite construction of the arm and ramp hanger of materials which coefficients of expansion selected to minimize gap changes resulting from temperature changes; various arrangements for fuel enrichment; improved throttle configurations; spatial configurations of shaft means for the air valve(s) and throttle(s) which facilitate provision of bearing structure for the aforesaid elements in the body of the carburetor while reducing the production of carburetor throat area taken up by the shafting arrangements; and other improvements.

An improved heat transfer system of the helical screw type, including endless loop guided volute passage driven scraping means for continuously cleaning the helical screw heat transfer member to prevent the build-up of workable material on an outer surface of the helical screw, while at the same time minimizing the power necessary for rotating the helical screw.

Heat transfer system

An electrical switch assembly of the type including a movable contact and at least one additional contact having a free end portion lying generally across the line of travel of the movable contact and having a further portion secured against movement within the switch assembly. The switch assembly is provided with a stop member projecting into the line of travel of the free end portion for limiting following movement of the free end portion as the movable contact is retracted, ensuring a complete break in an electrical connection formed between the movable contact and the additional contact.

Electrical contact positioning assembly

A component, versatile pushbutton actuated electrical switch capable of breaking one electrical circuit prior to establishing a further, different electrical circuit on successive actuators of a plunger ratchet mechanism, wherein a pair of spaced contact terminals are supported on opposite sides of a moveable contact. One of the contact terminals includes a plurality of attached portions defining a generally dog-leg configuration, wherein the portions extend in at least one plane lying generally across the line of travel of said moveable contact, with the portions having longitudinal axes forming a sufficient angle to one another with respect to the plane or planes whereby one of the portions, while bending causes torsional strain in at least one of the remaining portions of the contact terminal.

Multi-circuit switch assembly

A switch assembly of the type including a moveable contact and at least one additional contact having a free end lying generally across the line of travel of the moveable contact and having a further portion secured against movement within the switch assembly. A crushable rib is attached to a portion of the housing and is crushed into engagement with the further portion as the switch is assemblied. The invention also employs a pocket for securing a portion of the additional contact terminal against undesirable movement. A spring tab is employed for ensuring a good electrical connection between the moveable contact and a yet further contact terminal arranged within the switch.

Switch contact positioning assembly

An assembly for retaining electrical conductor end portions within a surrounding housing of an electrically operated device, including a plurality of spaced pin members extending between first and second housing portions, with pairs of the pin members located on opposite sides of conductor end portions located within the housing. The conductor end portions are, in turn, attached to contact terminals which are formed with an end portion located adjacent to the attached conductor having a width appreciably greater than a distance defined by a transverse gap extending between the pin members extending on either side of the conductor end portion, whereby tensional stresses applied to the conductor draw the attached contact terminal into abuting engagement with the pair of pin members, preventing longitudinal withdrawal of the contact between the pin members.

Electrical conductor alignment and retaining assembly

An actuator assembly for a small, versatile electrical switch of the type which includes a thimble telescoped over and axially slidable on a guide stud disposed between spaced conductor ends which are engaged by flanges of the thimble in a retracted position. The switch also includes a floating sleeve having radial latch dogs which are rotated during engagement with circumferentially spaced holding ribs in a surrounding housing to establish projected and retracted positions for the thimble. The actuator mechanism includes a strand of monofilament material extending through aligned apertures formed axially through the switch with a tie knot in an end of the strand adjacent an outer surface of a plunger acting to depress the thimble to engage or disengage an electrical connection within the switch in response to an operator pulling on a free end of the strand actuator.

Strand actuator for pushbutton switch

A small, versatile electrical switch suitable for the control of low current electrical devices includes a bridging contact, in the form of a thimble, telescoped over and axially slidable on a guide stud disposed between spaced coined conductor ends which are engaged by flanges of the thimble in a retracted position. A floating sleeve having radial latch dogs is rotated by sequential push operations into and out of latching engagement with the ends of circumferentially spaced holding ribs in a surrounding housing establish projected and retracted positions for the thimble. A coil spring normally biases the thimble and sleeve to a retracted position in which position the flanges of the thimble contact the coined conductor ends. A push operation rotates the sleeve latching the sleeve and thimble in a projected position wherein the flanges are out of contact with the coined conductor ends. The next push operation rotates the sleeve, disengaging the latch dogs and allowing the coil spring to position the thimble and sleeve in its retracted position at the same time making firm electrical contact between the flanges of the thimble and the coined conductor ends under the influence of the spring.
