A method of controlling target aquatic microorganism pest populations by exposing the target population to an effective amount of an aquacidal compound. The aquacidal compounds are selected from the group consisting of quinones, anthraquinones, naphthalenediones, quinine, warfarin, coumarins, amphotalide, cyclohexadiene-1,4-dione, phenidione, pirdone, sodium rhodizonate, apirulosin and thymoquinone. The method is particularly effective for treating ballast water of ships or other enclosed volumes of water subject to transport between or among geographic areas to control the relocation of plants, toxic bacteria, and animals contained in the water.

Method of controlling zoological and aquatic plant growth

The invention relates to an anti-inflammatory composition containing humate, such as insoluble, granular, other insoluble, or soluble humate, particularly Menefee Humate&#xae;. The invention also includes other anti-inflammatory compositions containing humate and at least one additional anti-inflammatory agent such as indomethacin or another nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug. The invention includes a method of treating acute or chronic inflammation in an animal, including a human, by administering one of these compositions. A method of facilitating the therapeutic effect of a therapeutic drug in an animal by co-administering humate is also provided.

Anti-inflammatory humate compositions and methods of use thereof

A method of controlling target aquatic microorganism pest populations by exposing the target population to a toxic amount of an aquacidal compound comprising an anthraquinone. The method is particularly effective for treating ballast water of ships or other enclosed volumes of water subject to transport between or among geographic areas to control the relocation of plants, toxic bacteria, and animals contained in the water.

A method of controlling or inhibiting the growth of aquatic plants and animals applies an effective amount of an active compound. The active compounds are selected from the group consisting of quinones, anthraquinones, naphthalenediones, quinine, warfarin, coumarins, amphotalide, cyclohexadiene-1,4-dione, phenidione, pirdone, sodium rhodizonate, apirulosin and thymoquinone. The compounds are particularly effective for treating ballast water of ships to control the relocation of plants and animals contained in the ballast water.

The invention provides a fungicidal composition comprising the compound 4-methyl-6-pentyl-2H-pyran-2-one and one or more suitable carriers, adjuvants and/or diluents. Also provided is a method of preventing or at least inhibiting the growth of fungi which comprises the step of applying the compound of the fungi or their locus. Further provided is a process for preparing the compounds.

Fungicide comprising 4-methyl-6-pentyl-2H-pyran-2-one

A novel method for eliminating or reducing, or otherwise treating, aquatic pests using juglone or juglone analogs is described. The methods are useful for removing zebra mussels and quagga mussels from water intake pipes and various other underwater hard surfaces. In addition, the methods are useful for treating dinoflaggellates, algae and amphipods, among other pests, from ballast water. A great advantage that these methods have over current protocols is that they have low environmental risk.

Method for treating aquatic pests

Massoialactone is useful for preventing or at least inhibiting growth of a fungus. Accordingly, a fungicidal composition has massoialactone as an active antifungal compound together with an agronomically acceptable carrier therefor. Additional antifungal ingredients can be added to the composition. The composition can be applied to surfaces, including surfaces of plants and plant parts, such as seeds.

The compound is a hydroxylated nonalactone that is esterified with 4-hydroxy-2-decenoic acid, and has the following structure: ##STR1## Botcinol is produced by culture of a novel strain of the fungus Botrytis cinerea, designated UK 185, and may be subsequently recovered from the culture medium and purified.

A strain of the bacterium Actinomyces viscosus ATCC-55473 has been discovered, which is able to reductively dechlorinate pentachlorophenol to lesser chlorinated products under anaerobic conditions without the formation of toxic intermediates. Compositions of the bacterium provide a methodology for bioremediation of chemically contaminated sites as an alternative to existing methods which are expensive and environmentally disruptive.
