A plasma display panel capable of increasing a luminous efficiency while decreasing discharge firing voltage while easily generating an address discharge by generating a sustain discharge as facing discharge. The discharge sustain electrodes are on barrier ribs between the two substrates. One of the sustain discharge electrodes extends between discharge cells and the other extends through discharge cells dividing discharge cells into two portions. Each discharge sustain electrode is surrounded by a dielectric material and also a non-transparent MgO protective layer. These electrodes are formed to be tall and narrow to allow for superior facing discharge potential.

Design for a plasma display panel that provides improved luminance-efficiency and allows for a lower voltage to initiate discharge

A plasma display device having an improved electrode structure that is capable of improving a contrast of the plasma display panel while decreasing a discharge firing voltage is provided. A plasma display panel according to an embodiment of the invention includes first and second substrates disposed opposite to each other, barrier ribs arranged in a space between the first substrate and the second substrate to define at least one discharge cell, address electrodes formed along a first direction, and display electrodes formed along a second direction intersecting the first direction. The display electrodes include bus electrodes formed extending in the second direction, expansion electrodes that extend toward the center of each discharge cell from the bus electrodes and face each other in the discharge cell with a discharge gap interposed therebetween, and auxiliary electrodes located at front ends of the expansion electrodes opposite to each other.

Plasma display panel with an improved electrode structure

A plasma display panel exhibiting a reduced discharge firing voltage and/or improved luminescence efficiency is disclosed. In one embodiment, the plasma display panel includes first and second substrates facing each other with a predetermined gap such that a plurality of discharge cells are formed in a space therebetween, wherein each discharge cell comprises an address electrode elongated in a first direction, a pair of first electrodes elongated in a second direction crossing the first direction, and a pair of second electrodes elongated in a second direction, and wherein each discharge cell includes a pair of discharge spaces, the pair of first electrodes are disposed at opposite sides of the each discharge cell, and the pair of second electrodes are disposed substantially at a center of the discharge cell, between the pair of first electrodes, and parallel with each other.

A plasma display panel includes a first and second substrates disposed facing each other, an address electrode formed on the first substrate and extending in a first direction, a first dielectric layer covering the address electrode, a second dielectric layer on the first dielectric layer, a first electrode and a second electrode alternately disposed on the second dielectric layer and extending in a second direction, a third dielectric layer covering the first electrode and the second electrode, a discharge space, the discharge space having a bottom defined by the first dielectric layer at a bottom of the discharge space and sidewalls defined by the second and third dielectric layers, and a phosphor layer in the discharge space.

Plasma display panel and manufacturing method of the same

A PDP having an opposing electrode structure including first and second substrates facing each other. A space between the first and second substrates is divided into discharge cells. Address electrodes extend in a first direction between the first and second substrates, and first and second electrodes extend in a second direction intersecting the first direction while being spaced apart from the address electrodes. At least one of the address electrodes or the first and second electrodes has a protruding portion that protrudes toward the center of each discharge cell. The protruding portions help reduce the discharge gap which in turn reduces the discharge firing voltage. Expansion portions formed as parts of the first and second electrodes increase the discharge gap used by the sustain discharge and lead to an improved luminescence efficiency.

Plasma display panel

An improved plasma display panel is provided that may reduce a discharge firing voltage while simultaneously improving discharge efficiency. The plasma display panel may include a first substrate substantially paralleling an opposite second substrate across a predetermined gap, wherein the gap is divided into a discharge cell. A phosphor layer may be formed in the discharge cell. An address electrode may be formed on the first substrate to extend along a first direction. A first electrode and second electrode may be formed on the first substrate, and a degree that a portion of at least one of the first electrode or the second electrode proximate the second substrate protrudes toward a center of the discharge cell may differ from a degree that another portion of the at least one of the first electrode or the second electrode proximate the first substrate protrudes toward the center of the discharge cell.

A plasma display panel in which a sustain discharge is generated as an opposed discharge, thereby reducing a discharge firing voltage and improving efficiency. The plasma display panel includes first and second substrates. Address electrodes are formed on the first substrate in a first direction and first electrodes and second electrodes are formed in a second direction crossing the first direction. Each of the first electrodes and the second electrodes has base portions that correspond to discharge spaces of discharge cells and a crossbar portion that connects the base portions along the second direction. The base portions of the first and the second electrodes face each other across a gap in each discharge cell. The length of the portions of the base portions near the first substrate is different from that of the portions of the base portions near the second substrate in the second direction.

Plasma display panel having stepped electrode structure

A Plasma Display Panel (PDP) includes: first and second substrates arranged opposite to each other; address electrodes arranged parallel to each other on the first substrate; barrier ribs arranged in a space between the first and second substrates to divide a plurality of discharge cells; phosphor layers respectively arranged within the discharge cells; first and second electrodes arranged on the second substrate corresponding to the respective discharge cells, the first and second electrodes extending in a direction crossing the address electrodes; and third and fourth electrodes, separated from the first and second electrodes, and projecting toward the first substrate in a direction away from the second substrate, the third and fourth electrodes facing each other with a space therebetween.

Plasma display panel (PDP)

The invention provides a plasma display panel having an opposed discharge configuration that can improve luminous efficiency while reducing a discharge firing voltage. The PDP may include a first substrate separated from an opposing second substrate by a predetermined interval. A plurality of discharge cells may be defined between the substrates within this interval. Address electrodes having protrusions that protrude toward the inside of each discharge cell may extend on the first substrate along a first direction. First electrodes may be arranged on both sides of the discharge cell along a second direction crossing the first direction and may be spaced from the address electrode between the first substrate and the second substrate. Second electrodes arranged between and substantially parallel the first electrodes may pass through each discharge cell. The first and second electrodes may project away from the first substrate and in a direction toward the second substrate.

An exemplary PDP according to an embodiment of the present invention includes first and second substrates, an address electrode, first and second barrier ribs, first and second electrodes, and a phosphor layer. The first and second substrates face each other, the address electrode is formed on the first substrate and extends in a first direction, and the first barrier rib is formed on the first substrate and partitions a plurality of first discharge cells. The first and second electrodes extend along the second direction and are disposed in the first discharge cells. The second barrier rib is formed on the second substrate and partitions second discharge cells that correspond to the first discharge cells. The phosphor layer is formed in the discharge cells on the second substrate.

A plasma display panel includes first and second substrates, address electrodes formed on the first substrate, display electrodes formed on the second substrate, barrier ribs formed between the first and second substrates to define discharge cells, each of which acts as a subpixel, and phosphor layers deposited in the discharge cells to form red, green, and blue subpixels. The ends of each subpixel have a first width, and a center area of each subpixel has a center width. The center area of one of the red, green, or blue subpixels is formed having a second width that is smaller than the first width, and the center area of another one of the red, green, or blue subpixels is formed having a third width that is larger than the first width.

A plasma display panel is provided in which a sustain discharge is induced in response to an opposed discharge generated between a pair of electrodes, thereby reducing a discharge firing voltage and improving efficiency. The plasma display panel includes a first substrate and a second substrate disposed to face each other, a space between the first substrate and the second substrate being divided into a discharge cell, a phosphor layer formed in the discharge cell, an address electrode formed on the first substrate in a first direction, and a first electrode and a second electrode formed on the first substrate in a second direction crossing the first direction. The first electrode and the second electrode are electrically isolated from the address electrode and corresponding to the discharge cell to face each other with a space therebetween. A shape of the first electrode is substantially different from a shape of the second electrode.
