Described are techniques for displaying a user interface of an application. A property file identifies a user interface element included in the user interface and specifies a first value for a first property of the user interface element. Executing the application includes: creating the user interface element having a set of properties and a default value for each property in the set; obtaining and processing the property file, setting the first property to the first value rather than the default value, wherein if the first value is not specified in the property file, the first property is set to the default value; and displaying the user interface including the user interface element in accordance with the first value.

Centralized support for application user interface elements

The invention provides, in some aspects, methods and systems for customizing data processing equipment by storing, on a removable storage device, a predetermined data set of customer requirements. The removable storage device is coupled to a data processor executing a default data set of customer requirements. The data processor executes, from the removable storage device, the predetermined data set of customer requirements, thereby causing a non-disruptive customization of the data processor from the default data set of customer requirements to the predetermined data set of customer requirements. Removing the storage device from the data processor causes a non-disruptive customization of the data processor from the predetermined data set of customer requirements to the default data set of customer requirements.

Customization of data processing equipment with a removable storage device

Described are techniques for performing a content view search. A hierarchical structure of content views is provided. The content views are registered with an application framework. Query terms are received. The application framework determines nodes in the hierarchical structure having an associated keyword matching the query terms, determines a first list of node identifiers identifying the nodes in the hierarchical structure matching the one or more query terms, and determines a second list of descriptions corresponding to node identifiers of the first list. The second list of descriptions is displayed. Responsive to a selection of a first description from the second list, a first node identifier is determined that corresponds to the selected first description. A first content view for the first node identifier is displayed.

User interface content view searching

Described are techniques for event notification. A first notification about a first event is received. A timer is set to an amount of time. Processing waits until an occurrence of either receiving a second notification of a second event or expiration of said timer indicating that the amount of time has lapsed. It is determined whether the amount of time has lapsed or whether the second notification has been received. If the expiration time has lapsed, notification of the first event is provided, and otherwise, if the second notification has been received prior to the amount of time lapsing, the timer is reset and processing waits for an occurrence of either receiving a next notification of an event or expiration of the timer indicating that the amount of time has lapsed.

Techniques for event filtering

An improved technique of providing content from a single point of entry to a user is presented. The technique includes providing, on a computerized device, a unified content database from a set of content databases including a first content database of a first application and a second content database of a second application. The technique also includes displaying, from the computerized device to the user, a navigation view based on the unified content database while the first and second applications run on the computerized device, the navigation view initially rendering a single access point for content to the user. The technique further includes updating the navigation view with content from the first and second content databases in response to navigation commands from the user, the unified content database identifying particular database entries in the first and second content databases based on the navigation commands from the user, each database entry including displayable content.
