Some methods can include the portable device saving a respective network parameter of each of the plurality of access point devices, the portable device traversing a plurality of channels in which the plurality of access point devices operate, the portable device operating in a respective one of the plurality of channels to receive a packet from a respective one of the plurality of access point devices, the portable device comparing a received network identifier in the packet with the respective network parameter of each of the plurality of access point devices as saved, and responsive to a match, the portable device transmitting a command signal to the respective one of the plurality of access point devices.

Systems and methods for synchronizing wireless sensor devices connected to a control panel device via multiple access point devices are provided. Some methods can include a control panel device periodically transmitting a time signal to an access point device, the access point device periodically receiving the time signal from the control panel device and using the time signal to synchronize with the control panel device, the access point device periodically transmitting a wireless beacon that includes a timestamp of the access point device to a sensor device, and the sensor device periodically exiting a sleep mode to receive the wireless beacon from the access point device and using the timestamp to synchronize with the access point device.

Systems and methods for updating a partition state of individual sensors or devices in a system are provided. Such systems and methods may include an access point broadcasting a beacon signal including a partition state change indicator portion and a partition state update portion, the sensors or devices periodically waking up to receive the partition state change indicator portion, and responsive to predetermined content of the partition state change indicator portion, one or more of the sensors or devices remaining awake to receive an updated partition state identified in the partition state update portion.

Additionally or alternatively, some methods can include receiving a wireless beacon message from a sensor device, determining the signal strength of the wireless beacon message, and based on the signal strength of the wireless beacon message, determining the range of the sensor device.
