A method comprising: A) using a mobile device's camera to capture a first image; B) by reference to a first illumination source appearing in the first image, determining first heading information of the mobile device; C) as the mobile device moves to a second location, using one or more inertial sensors of the mobile device to extrapolate a plurality of extrapolated first candidate locations and respective first candidate headings of the mobile device; D) at the second location, using the camera to capture a second image; E) by reference to a second illumination source appearing in the second captured image, determining a plurality of second candidate locations and respective second candidate headings of the mobile device; and F) based on a comparison of the extrapolated first candidate locations and headings with the second candidate locations and headings, determining at least one estimated location and respective heading of the mobile device.

Positioning based on illumination sources

Provided is a lighting device including a light source for emitting light, a sensor configured to detect infrared radiation from a plurality of locations along a path in the field of view of the sensor, at least one attenuation element arranged between at least one location of the plurality of locations and the sensor so as to attenuate or block infrared radiation emitted from the at least one location before it reaches the sensor, and a controller. The at least one attenuation element is further arranged in relation to the field of view of the sensor for the signal output from the sensor to indicate, when an occupant is moving along the path, a direction of movement of the occupant along the path. The controller is arranged to control the light source based on the direction of movement of the occupant, and a cover plate is arranged between the at least one location of said plurality of locations and the sensor, and also arranged between the at least one location and the light source, wherein the cover plate is transparent or translucent to said visible light, wherein the at least one attenuation element forms part of the cover plate, and wherein outside, or away from, the attenuation element, the cover plate is at least partly transparent to infrared radiation.

The network device is configured to send a public key to configurator device () over an established first wireless () connection, and to receive encrypted credentials wirelessly from the configurator device. The configurator device is configured to receiving the public key over the established first wireless connection, to send credentials wirelessly encrypted with the public key to the network device over the established first wireless connection.

Electronic network device

A coded visible light receiver comprises: a sensor, a transform module, and an interference cancelling module. The sensor receives light comprising data modulated into the light according to a coding scheme. The transform module is configured to transform the data into a frequency domain representation, representing a band of a spectrum resulting from the data being modulated into the light according to the coding scheme. The interference cancelling module is configured to cancel interference occurring in the band of the data, by determining one or more components in the band that exceed a threshold signal strength and cancelling those components.

Receiving coded visible light in presence of interference

A lighting device comprising: a first radio transceiver for connection to at least one further lighting device via a first wireless network; a second radio transceiver for connection to a network device via a second wireless network; a memory storing credentials assigned for use by the second transceiver for communication with the network device; and a control module configured to: detect that the lighting device is to operate as a bridge, instead of a further lighting device, to allow data to be exchanged between the at least one further lighting device and the network device; obtain credentials that have been established for use by the further lighting device to communicate with the second network; and modify the credentials stored in memory such that the credentials associated with the further lighting device are assigned for use by the second transceiver, thereby configuring the lighting device to operate as the bridge.

Lighting network

Remote controllers, positioning systems, and methods configured for the efficient assignment of addresses in a coded lighting positioning system are proposed. Particularly, a proposed remote controller comprises a receiver for receiving coded light from a light source in a coded lighting positioning system, where the coded light comprises an initial light source identifier of the light source. The remote controller also comprises a processing unit for assigning a modified light source identifier to the light source based on the received coded light, and a transmitter for transmitting the modified light source identifier to the light source. The modified light source identifier is a locally unique identifier used to provide positional information.

Efficient address assignment in coded lighting positioning systems

As at least part of a location network, there is provided a trigger node and multiple listening nodes. The trigger node wirelessly transmits a trigger signal to the mobile device, the trigger signal being configured to cause the mobile device to wirelessly emit a signal in response to receiving the trigger signal. The listening nodes listen for the response signal that was transmitted from the mobile device in response to the trigger signal, and thereby at each respective one of a plurality of the listening nodes that wirelessly receive the response signal from the mobile device, a respective measurement is taken of the response signal as received at the respective listening node, for use in performing a localization to determine the location of the mobile device based on one or more of these measurements.

Method and apparatus for locating of a mobile device

The present invention relates to a system and a method for refined zoning via intersection. Specifically, anchor nodes () of a zone-based positioning system are divided into multiple hyper zones () in different ways, where the different ways of dividing the hyper zones may be orthogonal to each other, with possibly partial overlapping. For each way of dividing the hyper zones (), the most likely candidate hyper zone is selected based on a user zoning method. Thereafter, the intersection () of the identified hyper zones is taken as the final location result of a mobile node to be located.

Method and system for refined positioning via intersection of hyper zones

This disclosure relates to communicating on a wireless channel in the presence of an interference source. A receiver accesses the channel to perform a sequence of energy detections. The interference source is modelled as cyclically transitioning into and out of an inactive state and as cyclically transitioning, when out of the inactive state, between a first active state, in which the interference source is active and creating interference on the channel, and a second active state, in which the interference source is active but creating a substantially lower level of interference on the channel. Based on the sequence of energy detections, large and small time scale metrics are determined. Transmission of data by a transmitter is in dependence on the estimated metrics.

Modelling interference

A method of tracking a location of a mobile device based on measurements of beacon signals transmitted between the mobile device and wireless reference nodes of a localization network. The method comprises: detecting motion of the mobile device; repeatedly applying a tracking algorithm to track the location of the mobile device, wherein the tracking algorithm is configured to estimate a current location of the mobile device by taking into account both (A) a current set of measurements of the beacon signals transmitted between the mobile device and at least some of the reference nodes and (B) one or more past sets of said measurements transmitted between the mobile device and at least some of the reference nodes; and adapting the tracking algorithm by, in dependence on the detected motion of the mobile device, adapting a relative significance attributed to the one or more sets of past measurements relative to the current set of measurements and by adapting the time-density of the beacon signals in dependence on the detected motion of the mobile device.

Localization based on motion detection of the mobile device

A system comprising a localization database mapping reference nodes to zones; and a localization module configured to determine a representative measurement based on a combination of measurements for the nodes of each zone (e.g. RSSIs), and to compare the representative measurements with one another in order to directly determine which one or more of the zones the mobile device belongs to. The system further comprises a lighting database mapping between lamps and zones, configured to receive an index of each of the one or more determined zones from the localization module, and based thereon to directly relate the one or more determined zones to one or more of the lamps in the lighting database; and a lighting access service configured to grant the mobile device with access to control of those lamps on condition of being related to the one or more determined zones by the lighting database.

A location system comprising: a location network comprising a plurality of reference nodes and at least one controller. Each reference node is operable to transmit a respective beaconing signal from which a respective measurement can be taken by a mobile device for use in determining a location of the mobile device. The at least one controller is configured to control whether and/or how often one or more signals of the location system are transmitted to be used in determining the location of the mobile device, the control being based on feedback from at least one determination of the location of the mobile device relative to the reference nodes.
