The subject application is directed to coordinating document processing operations among devices having differing functionality. A document is received into a first document processing device that has a first set of processing functions. A display is generated on the first device that includes indicia of an available document processing operation having a function of a first set and a secondary function of a second device, with any secondary function outside the first set. Selection data is received of an operation having functions from the first set and one or more secondary functions. Operation of the first device is controlled by a controller operable to control the functions of the first set by the first device on the document. The document is communicated to the second device following completion of any first set functions. The document processing operation is completed by the second device via completion of any secondary functions.

System and method for coordinated document processing among devices having differing functionality

The present invention is directed to a system and method for secure document transmission. A sender selects a portion of an original document containing confidential information using a highlighter, bracketing, underlining, or other identifying marks. The original document is then scanned to generate an electronic version, which is subject to optical character recognition to locate the portions of the document containing confidential information based on the identifying marks. These portions containing confidential information are then encrypted and a hybrid document containing non-encrypted portions and encrypted portions is generated. The hybrid document is then sent to a recipient, along with a decryption key. The hybrid document is then marked by the recipient to designate those areas containing encrypted information. The marked document is then scanned to generate an electronic version, which is analyzed to identify which portions require decryption based on the identifying marks made by the recipient. These portions are decrypted and a complete reproduction of the original document is generated for the recipient.

System and method for encrypting and decrypting document reproductions

The subject application is directed to a system and method for simultaneously commencing output of disparately encoded electronic documents. Selection data representative of multiple electronic documents encoded in multiple disparate formats is first received. For example, the electronic documents are capable of being encoded in MICROSOFT OFFICE WORD, MICROSOFT OFFICE EXCEL, ADOBE ACROBAT formats, and the like. Each of the disparate formats is associated with a corresponding software module and then retrieved in accordance with received selection data. Next, the electronic documents are communicated to corresponding software modules, and the document processing device commences a selected document processing operation on each of the electronic documents by a corresponding software module. Each application-specific module is adapted for processing a document processing request for one or more types of documents that are associated with one specific application.

System and method for simultaneously commencing output of disparately encoded electronic documents

The subject application is directed to a system and method for the automated configuration for document input devices. A document processing device first receives a document, which is scanned to detect an indicia on one of the sheets of the document. The indicia, in the form of a barcode or watermark, are then decoded to generate job data representing a desired device configuration for processing the received document. The job data is then used to program a job processor and the document processing device outputs the document in accordance with the job data.

A pluggable Raster Imaging Processor (RIP) system with two layers. The first layer is the RIP manager layer, which is mainly responsible for load balancing when multiple jobs requiring different types of raster conversion are encountered. The top layer is also responsible for communicating with other modules such as the Job Manager to start the job at the right trigger and obtain the type of rasterization required, and the Print Data Manager to forward the job to the physical image output device. The second layer includes a series of pluggable Raster Image Processors which perform the actual rasterizing of the images. Different Raster Image Processors can be plugged into the controller by registering themselves to the RIP manager layer. When registering, the Raster Image Processor denotes what types of images it can rasterize, such as FAX, PDL, or other formats.
