The present disclosure provides in vitro methods for predicting a compound's ability to inhibit multinucleate cell production resulting from post-mitotic cell fusion during a process of Daughter Number Variation (DNV) in mitosis. Compounds identified by this method can be used in cancer treatment, either alone or in combination with other known cancer drugs. The present invention also provides methods of personalized cancer treatment for a patient having a malignant tumor.

Detection and treatment of daughter number variations in cancer cells

A method for identifying one or more genomic variations in human genomic DNA, comprising employment of Alu, MIR and SVA sequence-based PCR primers and performing an inter-transposable-element (ITE) polymerase chain reaction on the assay mixture to produce an array of amplicons comprising the ITE genomic segments. Also provided the use of the method for identifying one or more genomic variants associated with a trait or a disease.

Application of levorotatory tetrahydropalmatine to the treatment of depression disorders, bipolar and related disorders, and manic episodes

Compositions comprising extracts prepared from mixtures of the herbal plants RadixDC ('B'), RhizomaWT Wang ('Y'), CaulisThunb (&#x201c;P&#x201d;) and FlosDurazz (&#x201c;A&#x201d;) are provided. The BYP, BYA, BPA, BY, BP, YP and BYPA extracts significantly decreased one or more of the effects of accelerated aging in mice exposed to D-galactose, including spatial memory deficit, and elevated oxidative stress marker malondialdehyde and pro-inflammatory cytokines TNF-alpha and IL-6 in the brain, indicating efficacy in reducing the damage of aging, and preventing and treating Alzheimer's disease and/or Parkinson's disease. Anxiolysis by the BYA, BPA, YPA, BA and PA extracts indicates efficacy for treating anxiety disorders, and the sedative effect of the BYA, YPA and PA extracts indicates efficacy for treating sleep disorders. None of the extracts significantly induced alteration in locomotor activity, decreased muscle coordination, or anterograde amnesia at the maximum oral dose tested.

Compositions of medicinal plants for reducing the effects of aging, prevention and treatment of age-related neurodegenerative diseases, and treatment of anxiety and sleep disorders

A dispersed mobile-phase countercurrent chromatography system is described in which solutes are carried by a stream of dispersed mobile phase solvent through a column, or array of serially-connected columns, of stationary phase solvent with which the mobile phase solvent is immiscible. Solutes carried along by the stream of dispersed mobile-phase solvent will be equilibrated between the mobile-phase solvent and the stationary-phase solvent. Because the mobile-phase is dispersed into mini-droplets much smaller in diameter than the column of stationary phase, the enhanced surface/volume ratio of the droplets expedites countercurrent equilibration of different solutes between the mobile-phase solvent and the stationary-phase solvent in accordance with the distribution-coefficients of the solutes between the two solvents. As a result, a solute with a distribution coefficient that favors its dissolving in the stationary phase will be retarded in its migration through the columns compared to a solute with a distribution coefficient that favors its dissolving in the mobile phase. The different migration rates of different solutes bring about their chromatographic separation on the columns, effectively combining the advantages of countercurrent distribution (e.g., elimination of any solid chromatographic matrix, and therefore losses of solutes due to adsorption to the solid matrix and contamination of separated solutes by impurities leached from the solid matrix) and liquid column chromatography (e.g., continuous mode of operation, and scalable from analytical to large industrial separations without any centrifugal or discontinuous mechanical steps).

Dispersed mobile-phase countercurrent chromatography

A micro speaker includes a planar diaphragm, spacers respectively disposed at one side surface of the planar diaphragm, an upper plate and a lower plate, one or more magnets and a circuit board. The planar diaphragm includes a vibrating diaphragm and a coil conductor. The coil conductor is stretched and bonded onto the vibrating diaphragm via an adhesive layer on the upper side surface of the planar diaphragm; the coil conductor is electrically connected to the circuit board. The speaker in this present invention can get a diameter of 15 mm or less, and a height is 5 mm or less.

Micro planar speaker

A method of genotyping single nucleotide polymorphisms ('SNP') and point mutations in nucleic acid based on chain extension by polymerase. This invention is based on the fact that the nucleoside immediately 5' adjacent to any SNP/point mutation site is known, and the neighboring sequence immediately 3&#x2032; adjacent to the site is also known. A primer complementary to the sequence directly adjacent to the SNP on the 3&#x2032; side in a target polynucleotide is used for chain elongation. The polymerase reaction mixture contains one chain-terminating nucleotide having a base complementary to the nucleotide directly adjacent to the SNP on the 5&#x2032; side in the target polynucleotide. An additional dNTP may be added to produce a primer with the maximum of a two-base extension. The resultant elongation/termination reaction products are analyzed for the length of chain extension of the primer, or for the amount of label incorporation from a labeled form of the terminator nucleotide.
