An example of a method includes providing a substrate with an exposed surface comprising a first chemical group, wherein the providing optionally comprises modifying the exposed surface of the substrate to incorporate the first chemical group; reacting the first chemical group with a first reactive group of a functionalized polymer molecule to form a functionalized polymer coating layer covalently bound to the exposed surface of the substrate; grafting a primer to the functionalized polymer coating layer by reacting the primer with a second reactive group of the functionalized polymer coating layer; and forming a water-soluble protective coating on the primer and the functionalized polymer coating layer. Examples of flow cells incorporating examples of the water-soluble protective coating are also disclosed herein.

A method for the detection and/or quantification of at least one target nucleic acid or target polypeptide in a sample of nucleic acids or polypeptides comprising the steps of: a) providing a sample comprising nucleic acids or polypeptides; b) labeling the nucleic acids or polypeptides with a ligand conjugate, the ligand conjugate comprising a first element binding to the nucleic acids or polypeptides and a second element which is a capture ligand; c) contacting the nucleic acid-ligand conjugates or polypeptide-ligand conjugates with at least one capture probe, the capture probe hybridizing with or binding to at least one target nucleic acid or target polypeptide; d) adding i) an oxidoreductase enzyme, wherein the oxidoreductase enzyme is recognized by the capture ligand, or ii) a complex comprising an oxidoreductase enzyme bound to a capture receptor, the capture receptor capable of binding to the capture ligand; e) adding a redox polymer, the redox polymer binding to the oxidoreductase enzyme, thereby resulting in the transfer of electrons from the enzyme via the redox polymer to an electrode surface; and f) detecting and/or quantifying the presence of the target nucleic acid(s) or target polypeptide(s).

Method and device for detection of nucleic acids and/or polypeptides

A threading intercalator of general formula I:IG-DG-IG-(DG-IG)&#x2003;&#x2003;(I)wherein IG, IG, and IGare the same or different and represent an intercalating group comprising a planar polyaromatic group; wherein DG represents an electrochemical, a chemiluminescent, a catalytic or an electrochemiluminescent detectable group; and wherein n represents 0 or 1. Compositions and methods for electrochemical detection of nucleic acid are disclosed. The compositions comprise electrocatalytic intercalators that bind to double-stranded nucleic acid and oxidize nucleic acid. Methods of detecting nucleic acid in a sample comprise forming double-stranded nucleic acid that is bound by electrocatalytic intercalators wherein the intercalators catalyze oxidation of the nucleic acid at the surface of an electrode.

Determination of nucleic acid using electrocatalytic intercalators

A method of bonding two components by depositing an amorphous and non-hydrogenated intermediate layer () on one of the components () and arranging the components () in spaced relationship with the intermediate layer () therebetween. The method further comprises heating one or both of the components () before bringing the components () into contact.
