A manufacturing method for a head slider coated with Diamond-like Carbon (DLC) includes: providing a substrate that is to be finally made into a head slider; depositing a DLC layer on a surface of the substrate, with carbon plasma source being sputtered in a direction that is vertical to the surface of the substrate; and doping a fluorine-doping (F-doping) layer on the DLC layer. Whereby the head slider has good film adhesion performance, higher hardness, better wear resistance, lower surface energy to obtain good hydrophobicity and oleophobicity, and lower fly height in HDD.

Manufacturing method for a head slider coated with DLC

A surface forming method for electronic component includes: forming a body that has at least one waveguide, with two ends of the waveguide exposed on a front end surface and a back end surface of the body; forming a photoresist film to cover on the front end surface of the body; irradiating a light from the back end surface of the body to remove a part, of the photoresist film, that covers at least a part of an end surface of the waveguide, thereby forming an exposed area on the end surface of the waveguide; etching the exposed area of the waveguide to form a recess; and removing the photoresist film. The position and size of the pattern could be controlled accurately and efficiently, instead of inefficient complex procedures of alignment.

Surface forming method for electronic component

A thermally assisted magnetic write head includes a waveguide having a first end surface included in an air bearing surface; a magnetic pole having a second end surface included in the air bearing surface; a plasmon generator having a third end surface included in the air bearing surface; a first protective film directly covering a part of the second end surface of the magnetic pole at least; and a second protective film directly covering the first end surface of the waveguide and the third end surface of the plasmon generator. The configuration can reduce recording density and improve thermal stability, furthermore increase the producing yield.

Thermally assisted magnetic write head, and method of manufacturing the same

A write element for a thermally assisted magnetic head slider includes an air bearing surface facing to a magnetic recording medium; a first magnetic pole, a second magnetic pole, and coils sandwiched between the first and the second magnetic poles; a waveguide for guiding light generated by a light source module mounted on a substrate; and a plasmon unit provided around the first magnetic pole and the waveguide, which has a near-field light generating surface for propagating near-field light to the air bearing surface. The near-field light generating surface of the plasmon unit is apart from the air bearing surface with a first predetermined distance to form a first recess, and the first recess is filled in with a protective layer. The thermally assisted magnetic head slider can prevent the plasmon unit from protruding over the air bearing surface, thereby improving the performance of thermally assisted magnetic head.
