A plasma display device is provided. The plasma display device includes a plasma display panel (PDP) which includes an upper substrate on which a plurality of black matrices are formed; and an external light shielding sheet which is disposed at a front of the PDP and includes a base unit and a plurality of pattern units that are formed on the base unit and that have a lower refractive index than the base unit. A distance between a pair of adjacent black matrices is 4-12 times greater than a distance between a pair of adjacent pattern units. Therefore, it is possible for a plasma display device to effectively realize black images and enhance bright room contrast with the aid of an external light shielding sheet which is disposed at a front of a PDP and which absorbs and shields as much external light incident upon the PDP as possible. Also, it is possible to reduce the probability of occurrence of the moire phenomenon and enhance the luminance of images displayed by a PDP by forming a plurality of pattern units on an external light shielding sheet so that the distance between the pair of adjacent pattern units can fall within a predetermined percentage range of the distance between the pair of adjacent black matrices formed on a PDP, or that the width of the pattern units can fall within a predetermined percentage range of the width of black matrices formed on the PDP.

Filter and plasma display device thereof

A display apparatus includes a plasma display panel (PDP) and a filter. The PDP has a display surface, and the filter has a panel side facing the display surface of the PDP and an opposing viewer side facing away from the display surface. The filter includes a base unit. The filter also includes pattern units that absorb external light from the viewer side. The pattern units have boundaries that define widths of pattern tops and widths of pattern bottoms. A distance between a pattern top and a pattern bottom defines a pattern height. A distance between adjacent boundaries, of a pair of adjacent pattern units, at adjacent pattern bottoms can be less than a distance between the adjacent boundaries at adjacent pattern tops, less than the pattern height, and greater than a width of at least one of the pattern bottoms.

Filter, plasma display device thereof, and related technologies

A plasma display device is provided. The plasma display device includes a plasma display panel (PDP) and an external light shield sheet which absorbs external light incident upon the PDP. The external light shield sheet includes a base unit and a plurality of pattern units which are formed in the base unit. Each of the pattern units contains 2-10 weight % of light absorption particles having a size of 1 &#x3bc;m or less. Since the external light shield sheet which can absorb and shield as much external light as possible is disposed at the front of the PDP, the plasma display device can effectively realize black images and improve bright room contrast.

External light shield sheet and plasma display device using the same

There are provided an electromagnetic shielding sheet and a plasma display apparatus. The electromagnetic shielding sheet includes a base sheet; a first layer on a first surface of the base sheet, the first layer including first and second patterns crossing each other; and a second layer on a second surface of the base sheet, the second layer including a third pattern. The first and second patterns include a conductive material, the third pattern includes a light absorbing material, and at least one of the first and second patterns is grounded. Accordingly, conductive patterns for shielding electromagnetic waves and blocking external light are formed on a first surface of a base sheet, and patterns for blocking external light are formed on a second surface of the base sheet, so that the functions of shielding electromagnetic waves and blocking external light can be simultaneously performed using one sheet, and therefore, the ambient contrast ratio of a display image can be enhanced without increasing manufacturing costs. Further, patterns for shielding electromagnetic waves are directly formed a glass member of a filter or an upper substrate of the panel, so that processes of forming an electromagnetic shielding sheet can be easily performed.

Electromagnetic shielding sheet, plasma display apparatus using the same, and related technology

A front filter being attached to a front surface of a flat panel display device includes a NIR (near infrared ray) blocking film for blocking the emission of near infrared rays to outside; an EMI (electromagnetic interference) shielding film for absorbing electromagnetic waves and for preventing the electromagnetic waves from being emitted to outside; a glass formed on a front surface of the EMI shielding film; and an antireflection coating for preventing incident rays from outside from reflecting back to the outside, in which the EMI shielding film includes a mesh unit formed of conductive meshes that are intersected with each other; and a mesh frame for surrounding the mesh unit to support the mesh unit and to define an effective display area on a screen.

Front filter in a flat panel display device

A display apparatus includes a plasma display panel (PDP) having an upper substrate at which black matrices are disposed. The apparatus includes an external light shield having a panel side facing a display surface of the PDP and an opposing viewer side facing away from the display surface. The light shield includes a base unit and includes pattern units that absorb external light from the viewer side. The pattern units have boundaries defined by intersections of the pattern units and the base unit. The boundaries define widths of pattern tops disposed toward the panel side or the viewer side and define widths of pattern bottoms disposed toward the other of the panel side and the viewer side. A distance between a pair of adjacent black matrices is 4 to 12 times greater than a distance between adjacent boundaries, of a pair of adjacent pattern units, at adjacent pattern bottoms.

Plasma display device

A filter for a display panel includes a base unit and an external light shielding sheet. The sheet includes a plurality of pattern units provided in spaced relation adjacent the base unit to absorb external light. The base unit includes a dye or pigment for absorbing light in a specific wavelength region, and refractive indexes of the pattern units are greater than a refractive index of the base unit. The pattern units may have the same or different refractive indexes.

Disclosed is a plasma display apparatus in which film-type front filter is connected. A plasma display apparatus of the present invention includes a panel formed by attaching an upper substrate to a lower substrate, an front filter attached to an entire surface of the panel and including extensions extending by predetermined lengths from edges of the panel in omni-directions, a back cover formed on a rear surface of the chassis base, and a filter supporter for electrically connecting the extensions to the back covers. The filter supporter is connected to the compass.

Plasma display apparatus

A filter and a plasma display device (PDP) having the same may include a plasma display panel, an EMI shielding sheet having a plurality of shielding layers each including three or more thin film layers, and a protection sheet including a base unit having a plurality of grooves formed in one surface thereof and a plurality of pattern units formed in the grooves and having a different refractive index from that of the base unit.

The present disclosure relates to a plasma display device including a plasma display panel and a sheet disposed at a front surface of the plasma display panel to protect the plasma display panel from external light. The sheet includes a base unit formed with a plurality of grooves and a plurality of pattern unit lines formed on the plurality of grooves of the base unit and has a refractive index different from that of the base unit. The number of the pattern unit lines overlapped with any one of a plurality of discharge cells formed in the panel is 8 to 25. A lower end of the pattern unit lines has a width larger than an upper end of the pattern unit lines, and the upper end of the pattern unit lines is closer to the plasma display panel.

Sheet for protecting external light and plasma display device thereof

An EMI (electromagnetic interference) shielding film of a flat panel display device includes a mesh unit formed of conductive meshes that are intersected with each other, and a mesh frame for surrounding the mesh unit to support the mesh unit and to define an effective display area on a screen. Both the mesh unit and the mesh frame are formed integrally together by a base film which has PET (polyethylene terephthalate) and metal foil.

EMI shielding film of a panel display device

The plasma display device comprises a plasma display panel and the filter which is formed at a front of the plasma display panel, wherein the filter includes an external light shielding sheet which comprises a base unit, and a plurality of pattern units formed on the base unit, wherein a bottom of the pattern units, which is wider than a top of the pattern units, comprises a concave having a curvature. The present invention relates to a filter and a plasma display device including the filter. The filter is formed on a front surface of a plasma display panel of the plasma display device and includes a first base layer; a second base layer having refractive index smaller than that of the first base layer; and a sheet for protecting external light including a plurality of pattern units formed to be spaced from each other between the first and second base layers, wherein an interval between two pattern units adjacent each other of the plurality of pattern units being larger than a height of the pattern unit.

A display apparatus includes a plasma display panel (PDP) and a filter having a panel side facing a display surface of the PDP and an opposing viewer side facing away from the display surface. The filter includes an external light shield having a first base unit and first pattern units. The first pattern units absorb external light from the viewer side and are substantially parallel to a first axis. The filter includes an electromagnetic interference (EMI) shield overlapping the external light shield. The EMI shield includes a second base unit and second pattern units. The second pattern units are conductive and substantially parallel to a second axis. An interior angle between the first axis and the second axis can be within a range of 40 to 50 degrees.
