Described herein are methods and systems for switching between a normal scanning mode and a proximity detection mode for a touchscreen of an information handling system, such as a laptop or notebook personal computer. When the information handling system is in idle mode, proximity detection is enabled, by grouping sensors of the touchscreen to transmit and to received, creating an electric field. If a user's finger or pointing device enters or breaks the electric field, user presence is detected and the system switches to normal or scanning mode.

A display includes an imaging device with a light source providing a first light emission and a second light emission, and an organic light-emitting diode panel proximate to the light source, wherein the first light emission leaks at an active area of the display device. A light emission barrier blocks the first light emission from leaking at the active area of the display while permitting the second light emission through the imaging device.

Described herein is a system and method for calculating variable refresh rate (VRR) flicker of a display used for information handling systems. VRR display data is provided to the display which generates a raw optical waveform. The raw optical waveform is captured by an optical sensor. The captured raw optical waveform is weighted using an inverse Fast Fourier Transform from a Temporal Contrast Sensitivity Function (TCSF). Calculating the flicker value of the weighted optical waveform over a defined moving window is performed. The flicker average and flicker maximum of the flicker value is used to determine a VRR flicker value.

An LCD display module includes a polygon flexible printed circuit to produce a thinner display. The polygon flexible printed circuit connects a driver integrated circuit to a printed circuit board assembly and a glass substrate. The polygon flexible printed circuit has a narrow minor end connected to the glass substrate and a wider major end connected to the printed circuit board assembly. Because the polygon flexible printed circuit has different end widths, the polygon flexible printed circuit permits reduced spacing of electronic components in proximity of the narrower minor end. The LCD display module also includes a shielding can in physical communication with the printed circuit board assembly to reduce electromagnetic interference between the printed circuit board and the polygon flexible printed circuit.

An information handling system may include a processor, a display device communicatively coupled to the processor, and a management controller communicatively coupled to the processor and the display device and configured to, in response to a failure of the information handling system, determine a component of the information handling system as a source of failure, generate a unique failure code associated with the failure, encrypt the unique failure code to generate an encrypted unique failure code, and display the encrypted unique failure code to the display device.

In some examples, a computing device may include a plurality of components, an embedded controller, and a read-only memory (ROM) to store a basic input output system (BIOS). A display device connected to the computing device may include a display panel and a timing controller. The embedded controller may be configured with instructions to determine that a power-on has been initiated, determine that a particular component of the plurality of components of the computing device has an issue that prevents booting the BIOS, and send a message from the embedded controller to the timing controller. The message may instruct the timing controller to display, on the display panel and before the CPU begins execution, one or more error messages associated with the particular component that has the issue preventing booting the BIOS. In some cases, a logo may be displayed along with the one or more error messages.

An information handling display presents visual images in a privacy mode that manages visual image brightness with a local processing resource when a predetermined condition is detected, such as multiple individuals in the display field of view. For example, an information handling system provides visual information to a display timing controller that includes a pulse width modulation signal to command display backlight brightness. When in a privacy mode, the timing controller or another processing resource modifies the pulse width modulation signal to command a predetermined reduced brightness, such as in a range of 30 to 50 nits of reduced brightness.

An information handling system presents visual images at a display that includes a display panel having a capacitive touch detection surface supported by an indium tin oxide layer disposed between a front layer, such as polarizer, and a display cell. To prevent excessive charge build up associated with the capacitive touch detection surface, a conductive ink is applied at the display panel perimeter and interfaced with a ground at the rear side of the display panel. In one example embodiment, a non-conductive ink insulates the conductive ink from the display panel except as desired to transfer excess charge from the indium tin oxide layer. The conductive ink may interface directly with the indium tin oxide layer or indirectly through a second non-conductive ink having greater conductivity than the insulative non-conductive ink.

Privacy cells can be configured to enable segmented control. A privacy cell can include a segmented array of electrodes that allow segments of liquid crystal to be independently controlled. By independently applying a voltage to each electrode, the liquid crystal within each segment can be independently oriented at a desired angle for a particular mode of operation.

Embodiments of a touch screen display device having improved electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection are provided herein with a touch screen and a display module underlying the touch screen. The touch screen described herein includes a touch panel substrate having a plurality of transmit lines, a plurality of receive lines, a plurality of routing traces and a ground ring formed thereon. The ground ring includes inner edges, which conform to and surround a periphery of the transmit lines, receive lines and routing traces, and outer edges that are substantially parallel and adjacent to edges of the touch panel substrate. At least one of the outer edges of the ground ring extend past at least one outer edge of the display module along at least one entire side of the display module, thereby providing ESD protection to the display module on all such sides.

A touch-sensing liquid crystal display (LCD) panel including an active device array substrate, an opposite substrate, and a liquid crystal layer disposed therebetween is provided. The active device array substrate includes a first substrate, a pixel array, a plurality of touch-sensing pads, and an electric field shielding layer. The pixel array is disposed on the first substrate and includes a plurality of sub-pixels arranged in an array, a plurality of scan lines, and a plurality of data lines. The touch-sensing pads are disposed on the first substrate. The electric field shielding layer is disposed on the pixel array and arranged between sub-pixels adjacent to each other, and the electric field shielding layer includes a pattern. The opposite substrate includes a common electrode and a plurality of touch-sensing protrusions disposed above the touch-sensing pads. Therefore, when the touch-sensing LCD panel is pressed, press mura is substantially eliminated.

The scan line and the data line are intersected to define a rectangular pixel area. The active element is electrically connected to the scan line and the data line. In a touch-sensing structure for a touch panel and a touch-sensing method thereof, the touch-sensing structure includes a plurality of first conducting wires paralleled to each other and a first conductor. A terminal of each first conducting wire is electrically coupled to the first conductor, so as to divide the conductor into a plurality of first line segments. The resistance of each first conducting wire is smaller than that of each first line segment. Wherein, when the displaying area of the touch panel receives an external force, a first conducting wire corresponding to the position designated by the external force is electrically coupled to a reference potential.
