A switch is provided that is of the type that may be installed in a contact block engaging a pushbutton operator via a latch assembly. The switch includes a spanner that engages a pair of terminals, each having a pair of contacts. The outer ends of the spanner are wider than the central portion so as to render the spanner torsionally compliant. The wide outer ends provide a sufficient thermal mass to absorb an arc that may be created when the switch is opened.

A modular emergency stop device including a switch unit and a control unit. The switch unit includes a switch which converts from a normal state to an emergency state when an emergency stop is necessary and a housing for the switch. The control unit includes a controller which controls a power source for a machine and a housing for the controller. The switch unit's housing and the control unit's housing are adapted to be selectively coupled together and uncoupled from each other. The switch is operably coupled to the controller when the housings are coupled together whereby the controller may appropriately control the machine's power source when the switch is converted to the emergency state. To replace the switch, the switch's housing is uncoupled from the controller's housing to remove the switch unit and a new switch unit is coupled to the controller's housing.

A safety relay configuration for linking a power source to a device to be powered via at least one output wherein output contacts all have to be closed to provide power to the device, the configuration including first and second three contact relays or four contact relays, each relay including a first NC contact and at least two NO contacts and, wherein the second relay first contact is linked in parallel with the first relay second contact forming a first parallel configuration, the first relay first contact is linked in parallel with the second relay second contact forming a second parallel configuration, the first parallel configuration is linked in series with the first relay coil between the power source and ground, the second parallel configuration is linked in series with the second relay coil between the power source and ground and the relay third contacts are linked within the outputs between the power source and the device. Where the relays have four contacts, the relay fourth contacts are linked within the outputs between the power source and the device.

A device and method establishing an electrically conductive path between a pair of contacts in low voltage, low current applications, such as in electronic circuits. The device and method feature a flexible spanner that contacts a pair of fixed contacts with a sweeping movement. The spanner includes a bent portion that flexes when a force is exerted on the spanner such that a contact portion of the spanner sweeps across the surface of the pair of fixed contacts.

A latch for connecting a switch operator, such as a push button, to contact blocks in an industrial switch employs opposed spring loaded teeth to engage detent surfaces on the operator. The teeth are attached to jaws generally along a line parallel to the line between the opposed teeth but to one side of a sleeve receiving the operator. The jaws and teeth are connected so that separation of the jaws separate the teeth allowing disengagement of the operator. The space between the jaws is accessible along an axis extending toward the back of the switch so as to permit release of the operator by means of a tool such as a screwdriver without clearance about the switch. The teeth may be wedge shaped to permit the operator to snap in place, only, without the use of the tool.
