A closure for a container including an indicator mechanism to record the removal of the closure from the container and a child-resistant mechanism to resist the removal of the closure from the container by a child. A spring in the indicator mechanism urges the indicator mechanism toward the child-resistant mechanism to provide sufficient force to engage the child-resistant mechanism for the attachment of the closure to the container, but not sufficient force to engage the child-resistant mechanism for the removal of the closure from the container, so that an additional external force must be applied to engage the child-resistant mechanism for the removal of the closure from the cap. The additional, external force is also necessary to engage the indicator mechanism, so that the mechanism cannot be inadvertently advanced.

Child-resistant indicator cap

A closure device for use with a container having an open neck finish, including an inner cap having a skirt terminating in an open end which engages the outside diameter of the finish. The inner cap is sized to initially engage the finish. The skirt has circumferentially spaced slits extending, which may function as lyophilization ports, which permit the inner cap to expand upon an axial closing force and engage the bottom of the finish. A liner is positioned in the inner cap proximate the closed end and is compressed against the finish when the cap is moved to alignment with the bottom of the finish. An outer cap is locked on to the inner cap in pre-assembly which then encloses the inner cap after complete assembly to seal and compress the liner between the finish and the inside face of the inner cap. In a preferred embodiment, an inwardly facing ridge is located on the inside of the inner cap to engage the liner by a distance sufficient to permit the liner to seal to the finish over the maximum variation of dimensions for the liner and for the crown on the finish.

Two piece all plastic seal

A needle shield comprising an elongated tubular housing having a central bore, means at one end for detachably mounting the shield to the hub of a syringe assembly, and means defining an elongated generally cylindrical chamber in the end of the housing opposite the mounting means. An inner end communicates with the bore and an insert made of resilient impermeable pierceable material is snugly supported in the chamber. The chamber is of a diameter slightly greater than the diameter of the insert and includes a tapered wall portion at the inner end and has a section of smaller diameter than the insert to provide a tight generally hermetic sealing relation therewith. The wall of the chamber opposite the inner end is deformable to permit ease of assembly and deformation after insertion of the plug to firmly seat the plug in the chamber. The needle shield also includes a series of relief grooves in the exterior surface portion of the base of the housing which comprises the hub mounting portion to provide a degree of flexibility and ensure secure mounting even during expansion in autoclaving. The hub portion of the housing is also provided with a series of radially inwardly directed beads and ribs to provide sealing means between the hub of the needle shield and the needle hub.

A single barrel two compartment assembly for medicaments comprising an elongated cylindrical hollow barrel having a normally sealed discharge end, a bypass plunger made of a pliable resilient material having a forward section of a diameter slightly greater than the diameter of the barrel, means defining a seat in the bypass plunger, a plunger rod having a tip engageable in said seat for actuating said bypass plunger axially in said barrel and seal means for sealing the open end of the said barrel remote from said discharge end, said bypass plunger normally dividing said barrel into a first compartment to one side of the bypass plunger for a powder medicament and a diluent compartment on the opposite side of said bypass plunger, actuation of said bypass plunger in one direction creating internal diluent pressure whereby said diluent bypasses the periphery of said plunger to mix with said powder medicament.

A venting closure for sealing a pressurized container comprising a stopper member having an elongated stem portion engageable in the discharge opening in the container, an enlarged head portion having a bottom chamber formed in its outer axial end face, a generally disc-like button rotatably mounted in said chamber having means defining a groove overlying a removable cap normally sealing a port in said stopper communicating with the interior head space of said container, vent channel means in said button, rotation of said button operable to displace the means normally sealing said port to establish fluid communication therethrough and permit venting from the head space to the atmosphere through said vent channel means in said button.
