Hydrogen coolers are provided with a cooler frame; cooling tubes positioned within the cooler frame; a tube bundle: an inlet chamber adjacent to an inlet end of the tube bundle; a reverse chamber adjacent to the reverse end of the tube bundle; and a support bracket adapted to be mounted on a frame of an electric generator. The support bracket defines an opening sized to receive inlet and outlet connections to the inlet chamber. The support bracket includes a shoulder for supporting the inlet chamber. This invention also encompasses the method of assembling these coolers in an electric generator.

Integral hydrogen cooler assembly for electric generators

Methods for fabricating and repairing heat exchange tubing are provided including depositing an integral solderable coating onto a surface oxide of a tubular member and then soldering a plurality of spaced fins onto the integral solderable coating. The methods described herein provide economical techniques for fabricating heat exchange tubing suitable for use in extremely corrosive environments.

Method for improving the solderability of corrosion resistant heat

A system for cooling hydrogen which is used for cooling an electric power generator, cooling of the hydrogen being effected by transfer of heat from hydrogen leaving the generator to cooling water extracted from a source which has a temperature determined by external conditions. The system is composed of an indirect heat exchanger for bringing cooling water into heat exchange communication with hydrogen leaving the generator and cooling water is supplied to the heat exchanger partially from the source and partially from cooling water leaving the heat exchanger. A temperature monitoring unit produces an indication of the temperature of the cooling water extracted from the source and a control unit is coupled to the temperature monitoring unit to cool the hydrogen to a desired temperature while maintaining a constant flow rate of cooling water into the heat exchanger.

Control of hydrogen cooler employed in power generators

A steam turbine system has a plurality of moisture-separator-reheaters (MSR) each connected via a respective drain line to a corresponding drain receiver. Each drain receiver includes a further drain line coupled through a flow control valve to a common line. The common line empties into a drain cooler connected at the highest pressure end of a series of feedwater reheaters. The drain cooler dumps through another flow control valve to one of the feedwater heaters. Each of the drain receivers includes a pressure sensor and liquid level sensor. A control processor monitors the pressure sensors and selects the drain receiver subjected to the lowest pressure. The processor then fully opens the valve associated with the selected drain receiver and thereafter regulates the liquid level in the others of the drain receivers by adjustment of their respective flow control valves in response to their respective level sensors. The liquid level in the selected drain receiver is adjusted to its preselected level by control of the flow control valve connected to the drain cooler. The pressure in the common drain line is regulated to the pressure at the lowest pressure drain receiver by adjustment of the control valves associated with the other drain receivers.

Moisture-separator-reheater drain cooler system

A moisture pre-separator for a steam turbine includes an inner cylinder, an outer cylinder and a bottom interconnecting lower ends of the inner and outer cylinders. An annular collection chamber formed by the outer surface of the inner cylinder and the inner surface of the outer cylinder and the bottom is vented to communicate steam from the collection chamber to the interior of the inner cylinder, thereby equalizing pressure around the circumference of the entry gap and increasing effectiveness of moisture entrapment. Vanes are provided either on the outer surface of the inner cylinder or the inner surface of the outer cylinder, or both, in order to enhance swirling flow of moisture within the chamber, thereby helping to keep moisture away from the outer surface of the inner cylinder.

Apparatus and method for improving film entrapment of a moisture

Apparatus for inhibiting flashing of preseparator drain liquid in a steam turbine system includes a pump in the form of an eductor for pumping liquid extracted from exhaust steam between a collection tank and a moisture separator drain tank. The eductor performs the dual function of pumping while cooling the liquid to provide greater differential between the liquid temperatures and the flash point. The apparatus includes controls for preventing flooding and emptying of the collection tank. Further apparatus is provided to cool the liquid in the collection tank by spray water obtained from a lower temperature cycle point.

This is a process which provides the first essentially continuous high tin flow soldering method for attaching copper-based fins to non-copper-based tubing. This invention avoids sludge buildup in the reservoir and generally avoids lead carbonate formation when the heat produced having a braze-like joint with eta phase layers exchanger is in service. In addition, a novel structure is adjacent to copper-containing surfaces. The invention utilizes an essentially lead-free, high tin solder cascade onto a preferably cool tube, genrally with a limited time of contact between the liquid solder and the tube, and with a combination air quench and wipe to remove excess solder and solidify the remaining solder. Thus a braze-like joint is achieved having better heat conduction and closer thermal expansion match. This finned heat exchanger tubing is generally useful for liquid to gas-type heat exchangers.

Process for restricted lead content soldering of copper with controlled

A method and apparatus for removing liquid entrained by steam flow through crossunder piping in a turbine installation. The apparatus includes an insert, housed within the piping, having a diverging inlet portion and a substantially cylindrical outlet portion of equal inside diameter as the piping. In such manner, the insert and its housing form an annular-shaped collection chamber from which liquid is removed by a drain pipe.

Method and apparatus for removing moisture from turbine exhaust lines

A mosture pre-separator for the exhaust from a steam turbine, having an exhaust nozzle, comprises three cylindrical conduits. A first cylindrical conduit is affixed to the annular wall of the nozzle and has a radially outwardly extending section adjacent the annular wall, with a second cylindrical conduit, which terminates short of the annular wall, contained therein to form a first collection chamber therebetween. A third cylindrical conduit is slidably positioned in the second cylindrical conduit and extends into the exhaust nozzle of the turbine and forms a second collection chamber between the outer wall thereof and the wall of the exhaust nozzle, with direct communication provided between the first and second chambers. The third cylindrical conduit may have flow directing plates at the upper terminus thereof which extend outwardly towards the wall of the exhaust hood to remove the water film formed thereon and direct the film to be second collection chamber and then from the second collection chamber to the first collection chamber for draining therefrom.

A steam turbine exhaust pipe erosion prevention system is disclosed. The system is particularly adaptable to the exhaust system of a high pressure steam turbine of a nuclear power plant. The system includes a moisture pre-separator to remove damaging water droplets prior to exhausting through the exhaust nozzles of the exhaust hood of the turbine. The system also includes an erosion prevention device strategically positioned in close proximity to pipe bends between the exhaust hood and the moisture separator reheater. The erosion prevention device removes the water film formed by damaging water droplets near pipe bends.
