An apparatus device such as a light source is disclosed which has an OLED device and a structured luminescence conversion layer deposited on the substrate or transparent electrode of said OLED device and on the exterior of said OLED device. The structured luminescence conversion layer contains regions such as color-changing and non-color-changing regions with particular shapes arranged in a particular pattern.

Structured luminescence conversion layer

The disclosure relates to a method of aligning a set of patterns on a substrate, which includes depositing on the substrate's surface a set of silicon nanoparticles, which includes a set of ligand molecules including a set of carbon atoms. The method involves forming a first set of regions where the nanoparticles are deposited, while the remaining portions of the substrate surface define a second set of regions. The method also includes densifying the set of nanoparticles into a thin film to form a set of silicon-organic zones on the substrate's surface, wherein the first and the second set of regions have respectively first and second reflectivity values, such that the ratio of the second reflectivity value to the first reflectivity value is greater than about 1.1.

Method for manufacturing a photovoltaic cell

A method of aligning a set of patterns on a substrate, the substrate including a substrate surface, is disclosed. The method includes depositing a set of silicon nanoparticles on the substrate surface, the set of nanoparticles including a set of ligand molecules including a set of carbon atoms, wherein a first set of regions is formed where the silicon nanoparticles are deposited and the remaining portions of the substrate surface define a second set of regions. The method also includes densifying the set of silicon nanoparticles into a thin film wherein a set of silicon-organic zones are formed on the substrate surface, wherein the first set of regions has a first reflectivity value and the second set of regions has a second reflectivity value. The method further includes illuminating the substrate surface with an illumination source, wherein the ratio of the second reflectivity value to the first reflectivity value is greater than about 1.1.

Methods and apparatus for aligning a set of patterns on a silicon substrate

A method of forming a diffusion region is disclosed. The method includes depositing a nanoparticle ink on a surface of a wafer to form a non-densified thin film, the nanoparticle ink having set of nanoparticles, wherein at least some nanoparticles of the set of nanoparticles include dopant atoms therein. The method also includes heating the non-densified thin film to a first temperature and for a first time period to remove a solvent from the deposited nanoparticle ink; and heating the non-densified thin film to a second temperature and for a second time period to form a densified thin film, wherein at least some of the dopant atoms diffuse into the wafer to form the diffusion region.

Junction formation on wafer substrates using group IV nanoparticles

An apparatus such as a light source has a multi element light extraction and luminescence conversion layer disposed over a transparent layer of the light source and on the exterior of said light source. The multi-element light extraction and luminescence conversion layer includes a plurality of light extraction elements and a plurality of luminescence conversion elements. The light extraction elements diffuses the light from the light source while luminescence conversion elements absorbs a first spectrum of light from said light source and emits a second spectrum of light.

OLED lighting devices having multi element light extraction and luminescence conversion layer

A method of forming a densified nanoparticle thin film is disclosed. The method includes positioning a substrate in a first chamber; and depositing a nanoparticle ink, the nanoparticle ink including a set of Group IV semiconductor particles and a solvent. The method also includes heating the nanoparticle ink to a first temperature between about 30&#xb0; C. and about 300&#xb0; C., and for a first time period between about 1 minute and about 60 minutes, wherein the solvent is substantially removed, and a porous compact is formed; and positioning the substrate in a second chamber, the second chamber having a pressure of between about 1&#xd7;10Torr and about 1&#xd7;10Torr. The method further includes depositing on the porous compact a dielectric material; wherein the densified nanoparticle thin film is formed.

Methods of filling a set of interstitial spaces of a nanoparticle thin film with a dielectric material

An electroluminescent device utilizes a plurality of embodiments to minimize the variation in luminance due to changes in the voltage across the device. These include a highly conductive hole injection layer in a bi-layer device, a thick hoe transporting interlayer in a tri-layer device and the addition of an external resistor in series with the device.

Luminance uniformity enhancement methods for an OLED light source

A method of forming a densified nanoparticle thin film in a chamber is disclosed. The method includes positioning a substrate in the chamber; and depositing a nanoparticle ink, the nanoparticle ink including a set of Group IV semiconductor particles and a solvent. The method also includes heating the nanoparticle ink to a first temperature between about 30&#xb0; C. and about 300&#xb0; C., and for a first time period between about 1 minute and about 60 minutes, wherein the solvent is substantially removed, and a porous compact is formed. The method further includes exposing the porous compact to an HF vapor for a second time period of between about 2 minutes and about 20 minutes, and heating the porous compact for a second temperature of between about 25&#xb0; C. and about 60&#xb0; C.; and heating the porous compact to a third temperature between about 100&#xb0; C. and about 1000&#xb0; C., and for a third time period of between about 5 minutes and about 10 hours; wherein the densified nanoparticle thin film is formed.

Methods for creating a densified group IV semiconductor nanoparticle thin film

In an embodiment of the invention, a microcavity OLED device that minimizes or eliminates color change at different viewing angles is fabricated. The OLED device can be, for example, an OLED display or an OLED light source used for area illumination. This OLED device includes a multi-layer mirror on a substrate, and each of the layers are comprised of a non-absorbing material. The OLED device also includes a first electrode on the multi-layered first mirror, and the first electrode is substantially transparent. An emissive layer is on the first electrode. A second electrode is on the emissive layer, and the second electrode is substantially reflective and functions as a mirror. The multi-layer mirror and the second electrode form a microcavity. On a front surface of the substrate is a light modulation thin film. The light modulation thin film can be any one of: a cut-off color filter, a band-pass color filter, a brightness enhancing film, a microstructure that attenuates an emission spectrum at an angle at which there is a perceived color change, or a microstructure that redistributes wavelengths so the outputted emission spectrums have the same perceived color.

Reducing or eliminating color change for microcavity OLED devices

An apparatus such as a light source has a multi-element light extraction and luminescence conversion layer disposed over a transparent layer of the light source and on the exterior of said light source. The multi-element light extraction and luminescence conversion layer includes a plurality of light extraction elements and a plurality of luminescence conversion elements. The light extraction elements diffuses the light from the light source while luminescence conversion elements absorbs a first spectrum of light from said light source and emits a second spectrum of light.

Device structure for OLED light device having multi element light extraction and luminescence conversion layer

A novel OLED light source and method for controlling said OLED light source panel are disclosed wherein said light source is constructed such that active areas are segmented and said segments are separately addressable. In one embodiment, the segments are a series of RGB lines or stripes and the control unit may separately drive each individual stripe or may drive all separate color lines or may drive separate lines within a given region on the panel. In another embodiment, the stripes of the panel are connected to control lines that are either current limited or have a fuse that serves to obviate a current runaway condition on the panel. In another embodiment, the output light chromaticity of the panel is controlled either by users or by light sensors.

Organic light emitting diode light source

An embodiment of the present invention pertains to an electronic device such as a passive matrix display, an alpha-numeric display, a detector array, or a solar cell array. The electronic device includes multiple organic optoelectronic devices and one or more of these organic optoelectronic devices are protected from shorts. Each of the one or more organic optoelectronic devices that is protected from a short has one of its electrodes coupled to a first current limiting device and optionally has another electrode coupled to a second current limiting device. Also, one of the electrodes of that organic optoelectronic device, the first current limiting device, or the second current limiting device is patterned.

Current limiting device

An organic OLED having a cathode formed from a first conducting layer, an electroluminescent layer including an oxadiazole compound, and an anode constructed from a second conducting layer which is transparent to light generated by the electroluminescent layer. In one embodiment, an electron transport layer is sandwiched between the anode and electroluminescent layers. Other embodiments utilize a hole transport layer between the electroluminescent layer and the anode either with or without the electron transport layer. In one embodiment, the anode is constructed from a layer of indium tin oxide and a layer of a hole transport material that bonds to indium tin oxide and which has an energy band intermediate between that of indium tin oxide and that of the hole transport layer.

Oxadiazole blue-emitting organic LED's

An organic light emitting device having a process compatible current self-limiting (CSL) structure applied in the vicinity of an electrode of the device prevents the occurrence of high current flow in the vicinity of a short within the device. Should a short occur, the CSL structure becomes resistive, or non-conducting in the vicinity of the short, thus preventing the occurrence of &ldquo;runaway&rdquo; current in the vicinity of the short. By limiting the current flow between conductors in the device, the non-emissive areas of the device can be minimized, thus improving the overall reliability of the device.
