A storage system comprises a second NAS storage apparatus comprising a processor and a storage medium and a third NAS storage apparatus for migrating an object managed by a first NAS storage apparatus. The processor stores path information of an object for which migration has started after including the path information in object management information, in the storage medium prior to migrating the object entity to the third NAS storage apparatus. The processor, after receiving the object entity from the first NAS storage apparatus and migrating the object entity to the third NAS storage apparatus, stores the third NAS storage apparatus path information to the object entity in the object management information, and reflects the management information in the third NAS storage apparatus.

Storage system and object management method

The information system of the present invention is composed of multiple sites including a local file server and clients, and a data center having a center file server. When a user starts moving to a different site after using a file in the local file server through a client of any one site, the local file server replicates files of a user having the shortest predicted arrival site to a different site to a center file server preferentially based on a location information of each user. Further, at each site, files of a user having a short predicted time of arrival to its own site are downloaded based on the location information of the user.

Information system

A remote file server managing a remote storage device and a local file server managing a local storage device are coupled to a communication network (e.g. the Internet). The local file server (A) replicates a file in the local storage device to the remote file server and, (B) if a first condition is satisfied, manages the replicated file which is the file from which the data is replicated as a migration target file. The local file server, even if the (B) is completed, does not delete the migration target file from the local storage device and, if the second condition is satisfied, deletes the migration target file from the local storage device.

A disk array system includes storage devices, a storage device control unit, a connection unit being connected with the storage device control unit, channel control units, a shared memory, and a cache memory. Each channel control unit includes a first processor of converting file data, received through a local area network outside of the disk array system to which the channel control units belongs, into block data and requesting storage of the converted data in the plurality of storage devices and a second processor of transferring the block data to the storage devices through the connection unit and the storage device control unit in response to a request given from the first processor and is connected with the connection unit and the local area network.

A method of controlling a storage control apparatus connected to a host computer via communication unit, receiving a data I/O request transmitted from the host computer, and performing a data I/O process corresponding to the request, includes the following steps of: transmitting a message notifying a start of a process from the storage control apparatus to the host computer when the storage control apparatus executes a process which requires control of a data I/O request transmitted from the host computer, and executing the process by the storage control apparatus after receiving a reply message in response to the aforementioned message.

A storage controlling device is connected to an external device and is able to communicate with each other.
