In a device for the electrically conductive connection of a liquid-crystal cell to a circuit board, the liquid-crystal cell and the circuit board are substantially perpendicular to each other and have conductive paths which fit each other, the conductive paths being connected to each other by solder within an angle formed by them. A slot can be provided in an edge region of the circuit board in order to receive an edge region of the liquid-crystal cell.

Device for an electrically conductive connection between a liquid

A display device, particularly a liquid crystal display, has spacing elements (10) arranged uniformly distributed between two parallel support plates (1, 2). These spacing elements (2) bear a layer of adhesive (11) and are bonded to both support plates (1, 2), precisely in the same way as in the spacing frame (4) is. In this way, the support plates (1, 2) do not bulge toward the outside. In the manufacture of the display device, the spacing frame (4) is first applied onto a support plate (2) followed then by the spacing elements (10). After the second spacing plate (1) has been placed on top, the parts are bonded together under pressure and temperature.

Method for the manufacture of a display device, particularly a liquid

A display for displaying variable and permanent data. It has two support plates 1 and 2 which form between themselves a chamber 3 in which a fluid which can be switched between optically different states is arranged. Polarizers are arranged on the sides of the support plates 1 and 2 which face away from the chamber 3. In the region of permanent data, transparent elements 14 are present between the support plates 1 and 2. Furthermore, a source of light 15 is arranged on the side of the cell facing away from the observer. The variable data consists of bright data against a dark background. The observer's side of the cell is provided with a light-impervious layer 8 which has cutouts 9 and 10 in the region of the variable data as well as in correspondence with the permanent data. A transflective layer is disposed in the cutput region to enable viewing the cutout region and permanent data via incident light.

Display

The invention covers a liquid-crystal cell having two transparent substrates 1 and 2 arranged at a distance from each other and forming between them a cell space 3 which is filled with liquid-crystal substance 8. Polarizers 5 are arranged on the sides of said substrates facing away from each other while electrodes 6 and 7 are arranged on the sides thereof facing each other. A substrate-side boundary surface of the cell space 3, along which surface the liquid-crystal surface 8 borders, is formed with a plurality of depressions 12 which substantially adjoin each other and, cover the entire boundary surface. Each depression 12 has places of different depth distributed over the extent of its surface, these depths producing light colors which correspond to the total thickness of the liquid-crystal layer 8 present at the respective places. The light colors have at least substantially the entire color spectrum in the region of the surface of a depression 12.

The invention relates to a liquid crystal display for the displaying of characters and symbols, having a liquid crystal cell 1 and polarizers 8 and 10, one arranged on the viewing side and one arranged on the rear side of the liquid crystal cell 1. Furthermore, a reflector 9 is arranged behind the rear polarizer 8. A surface of the viewing-side polarizer 10 is inclined to the plane of the liquid crystal cell 1. The surface of the viewing-side polarizer facing the liquid crystal cell 1 serves as a deflection surface 15 for light incident thereon approximately transversely to the plane of the liquid crystal cell 1.

Liquid crystal display

An indicating device having a fluid which can be switched between two optically different states and which fills up a cell chamber formed between two transparent support plates which are parallel to each other. The support plates are held at a predetermined distance from each other by a plurality of spacer elements of given size, and they are each provided with an electrically conductive layer, which layers are located opposite each other. The volume of the cell chamber can be varied in accordance with a temperature-dependent change in the volume of the fluid filling it.

The display surface is swingably arranged in a position other than 90 degrees relative to the direction in which the observer views the display surface and the characters and symbols are represented in such distorted manner on the display surface that they can be perceived without distortion from the direction of view of the observer.

A corrosion-resistant solderable layer system is connected to an unsolderable layer, the layer system and the unsolderable layer being applied to a support and comprises a solderable layer and an anti-corrosion layer which covers the solderable layer and protects the latter against oxidation. In a method for the manufacture of electro-optical display elements in which an electrically conductive layer is applied to a glass substrate and an insulating layer is applied on top thereof, the insulating layer being subjected to a drying process and then to a firing process, a substance which decomposes under the action of heat is then applied after the firing process to the insulating layer in the region of an insulating point, said substance having at least one decomposition component which penetrates into the insulating layer, whereupon the firing process is carried out. In this way there is obtained a particularly simple method of contacting the conductive layer through the insulating layer.

Electro-optical display element and method for its manufacture

A method of producing conductor tracks applied to a support, particularly conductor tracks applied on an electrode support of a liquid-crystal display, in which a mask having cutouts corresponding to the conductor tracks is placed on the support and a conductive layer of electrically conductive material is applied corresponding to the cutouts to the support by, for instance, vapor deposition or sputtering. The cutouts are so interrupted at given points by support webs that the mask is imparted a mechanically stable shape in its plane, and that interruptions in the conductor paths are caused by the support webs. This occurs upon the application of the conductor layer of electrically conductive material, partially forming the conductor tracks on the support with interruptions in the conductor tracks masked by the support webs in a first operation by applying the conductive layer of electrically conductive material through the openings of the mask onto the support.

A passive electro-optical indicating element for displaying information, such as alpha-numerical characters having two spaced, transparent electrode supports which together enclose a liquid crystal substance and are provided on their surfaces opposite said liquid crystal substance with respective polarizers, have the surface facing the observer of the polarizer located on the front electrode support coated with a thin layer of a transparent curable lacquer, in which inorganic fillers are suspended in the prepared lacquer in an amount between 2 and 10 percent by weight.
