An apparatus and method for classifying value documents includes least two sensor devices arranged to capture waves reflected on a front side and on a back side of a value document and to generate corresponding sensor data or to capture properties of the value document in at least two different regions of the value document by means of different measuring principles and to generate corresponding sensor data. At least one evaluation device is arranged to classify the value document with the aid of the sensor data generated by the at least two sensor devices, which sensor data relate to the waves reflected on the front side and back side of the value document or to the properties of the value document captured in the at least two different regions of the value document by means of different measuring principles.

Methods involve distributing a data stream in a value-document processing apparatus from at least one sensor to at least one processing unit and a system for distributing sensor data. The value-document processing apparatus has a distributing device and at least one processing unit. The distributing device comprises at least two data interfaces. A sensor data packet is created and comprises the sensor data and a target address. The target address describes a physical memory address of the at least one processing unit. The sensor data packet is sent to one of the data interfaces of the distributing device. The distributing device receives the sensor data packet at a further data interface. The sensor data packet is relayed by the distributing device to the at least one processing unit.

A method and an apparatus for checking bank notes, in which data from at least two different measurings of the bank notes to be checked are evaluated. Bank notes are checked, whereby data from at least two different measurings of bank notes to be checked are evaluated, a first property of the bank note to be checked being derived from the data of at least one first measuring, at least one second property of the bank note to be checked being derived from the data of at least one second measuring. A correlation between the first and the second property for the same places on the bank note to be checked is determined, and the first property is derived once again. For the places of the bank note to be checked, for which a correlation between first and at least second property has been determined, an altered derivation of the first property from the data of the at least first measuring is performed.
