A rotating capacitive data link system includes a first body rotatable relative to a second body. The first body has one or multiple circular signal transmission lines with multiple transmission line segments. The second body has multiple circular arranged sets of receiving couplers with multiple receiving couplers. Each of the sets of receiving couplers matches to one of the circular signal transmission lines, such that depending on the relative rotational position or angle between the first body and the second body multiple capacitively coupled paths between the transmission line segments and the receiving couplers of a matching set of receiving couplers exist. A receive signal processor is provided to generate a detailed error or status matrix of transmission errors.

High density rotary joint for contactless data transfer

A contactless datalink for transmission of data between a rotatable part and a stationary part, including a dielectric waveguide split into two sections. A first dielectric waveguide section is at the rotatable part and a second dielectric waveguide section is at the stationary part. The first dielectric waveguide section is coupled to a transmitter and the second dielectric waveguide section is coupled to a receiver.

Rotary joint with dielectric waveguide

A waveguide structure includes a first waveguide section mechanically and electrically connected by a fixed connector to a second waveguide section. The waveguide sections include a dielectric material with a ground layer and a conductor structure with a pair of elongate conductors. The fixed connector includes a dielectric material with a pair of contact pads insulated from a ground layer. The fixed connector is attached by its top side to the bottom sides of interface sections of the waveguides sections forming a ground contact. The interface sections each comprise an intermediate conductor from each of the elongate conductors at the top side to the bottom side of the dielectric material. The intermediate conductors are connected via the contact pads.

A slipring with at least one slip ring module having at least one sliding track, and at least one wear indication track. A wear indication circuit is connected to the at least one wear indication track for monitoring electrical properties of the wear indication track and signaling an abnormal slipring condition. A wear indication track may be exposed to higher load, higher rotation speed, higher brush pressure force, or other lifetime-reducing influence as compared to a normal sliding track.

A receiving coupler for large diameter capacitive data links comprises at least two layers of isolating material, having different lengths and being attached to each other. The shorter layer comprises on its outer surface a first pair of conductors, whereas the longer layer comprises a second pair and a third pair of conductors. The conductors are connected to each other by vias. The stack of layers of different lengths can be adapted to various curve radii of transmitting components of a capacitive rotary joint.

A test setup for testing a contactless digital rotary joint integrated in a device requiring data transmission between a rotating part and a stationary part, the rotary joint further comprises a transmitter and a receiver. The transmitter has a transmitter amplifier, which is coupled to a pair of transmission lines, which are terminated by a pair of terminations. The transmission lines are differential transmission lines comprising a pair of conductors which is driven by differential signals from the transmitter amplifier. The receiver has a receiver antenna comprising a pair of antenna sections which are differentially operated and feed a differential signal to the receiver amplifier. A transmitter ground and a receiver ground are coupled to a common mode signal generator generating a common mode signal. A data source is coupled to the transmitter amplifier feeding a test signal into the transmitter amplifier, and a data sink is coupled to the receiver amplifier for receiving the test signal and generating a test result value. Also disclosed is a method for adjusting a contactless data link integrated in a device requiring data transmission between a rotating part and a stationary part.

A method for the detection of a gripping of a hand-held device with one hand, using a capacitive sensor device, uses at least one transmitting electrode, at least one compensating electrode and at least one receiving electrode. In the first operating mode, a first alternating electrical signal is applied to the transmitting electrode and a second alternating electrical signal is applied to the compensating electrode. An electrical hand-held device is provided with improved proximity detection, which can be placed on a surface and has at least one transmission electrode, at least one reception electrode and at least one compensation electrode arranged between transmission electrode and reception electrode. The transmission electrode and the compensation electrode can be supplied with an electric switching signal of predetermined signal frequency and predetermined signal amplitude. Switching electric signal at the compensation electrode is phase-delayed with respect to the switching electric signal at the transmission electrode. Alternating electric fields radiated at the transmission electrode and the compensation electrode generate a current in the reception electrode, which is representative of an approach of a hand to the hand-held device. The transmission electrode and the reception electrode are arranged in such a way, that the impedance between the transmission electrode and the reception electrode exceeds a predetermined value, which is suitable to keep the current generated in the reception electrode under a predetermined value.
