A modular microreaction system comprising a housing and functional base modules accommodated therein. The housing has at least one fluid inlet and at least one fluid outlet. The base modules are arranged one behind another in a row in the housing and being designed such that fluid can flow successively through them in series. At least some of the base modules are constructed from a plurality of substantially rectangular foils having plate-like surfaces in essentially parallel planes which foils are connected to one another and are arranged in layers one above another, forming a foil stack. At least a first of the foils having at least one of microstructured channels, sensor elements, heating elements and combinations thereof on a plate-like surface of the at least a first of the foils. Each foil stack also has at least one foil which is provided on a plate-like surface of the at least one foil with channels which are constructed such that for one fluid line they lead from one side of the foil stack to another side of the foil stack. The base modules (&#x2033;) each have at least one frame element (), which is arranged essentially perpendicular to planes of the foils, and is connected to the foil stack in a fluid-tight manner and the foil stacks, together with the frame elements, form base elements that can be inserted into and removed from the housing () as a unit.

Modular microreaction system

A novel mixing apparatus and process for mixing at least two fluids are disclosed. Excellent mixing and superior pressure drop characteristics are achieved in a device comprising at least two supply channels to feed a mixing chamber and create a vortex. The alignment of the supply channels is such that fluids are introduced into the chamber at both tangential and radial directions. In the case of gas/liquid mixing, particularly advantageous is the injection of the liquid stream tangentially and the gas stream radially. When two liquid streams are mixed, it is desirable to distribute them into fine, interdigitated channels prior to introduction into a supply channel and finally into the chamber. The mixed stream is generally withdrawn from the center of the swirling vortex and in a direction perpendicular to the plane of the vortex.

Static mixer and process for mixing at least two fluids

The invention relates to a procedure and a micromixer for mixing at least two fluids. The aim of the invention is to reduce the mixing time of the micromixer compared to micromixers known to the art while maintaining high mixing quality and small structural dimensions. The inventive procedure is characterized by the following steps: a plurality of separated fluid currents of both fluids are brought together and alternately adjacent fluid lamellae of both fluids are formed: the combined fluid currents are carried away and a focused total fluid current is formed; the focused total fluid current is fed as fluid jet into an expansion chamber; and the resulting mixture is drawn off. The micromixer comprises a plurality of alternately adjacent fluid channels which open into an inlet chamber. A focusing channel is in fluid connection with said inlet chamber and opens into an expansion chamber. The inventive procedure and micromixer are especially advantageous in that they are suitable for the production of emulsions and dispersions.

Method and statistical micromixer for mixing at least two liquids

A novel apparatus for mixing and reacting at least two fluids are disclosed. Excellent mixing and superior pressure drop characteristics are achieved in a device comprising at least two supply channels to feed a mixing chamber and create a vortex. The alignment of the supply channels is such that fluids are introduced into the chamber at both tangential and radial directions. In the case of gas/liquid mixing, particularly advantageous is the injection of the liquid stream tangentially and the gas stream radially. Reaction of the fluids can take place within the mixing chamber or in a separate reactor in fluid communication with the mixing chamber outlet. The mixer/reactor apparatus is especially useful for reactions where rapid diffusion is critical.

Apparatus for mixing and reacting at least two fluids

Reactor for carrying out electrochemical reactions with an electrode and a counter-electrode are known, whereby the electrodes are separated form one another by a capillary gap. Such reactors do not comprise a homogeneous flow rate distribution in the capillary gap which can thus lead to a reduction of selectivity and of local temperature increases. In addition, high ohmic resistance requires the use of conducting salts. The aim of the invention is to provide a reactor in which the voltage drop in the electrolyte is minimized and which can be better optimized over a short resistance time distribution. To this end, the capillary gap comprises at least one channel as a reaction chamber having a height less than or equal to 200 &mgr;m. According to the inventive method, the volume flow of the educt current is measured such that the flow of the educt current is laminar over the length of the channel having a height less than or equal to 200 &mgr;m.
