Disclosed is a brake actuating unit for actuating a motor vehicle brake system of the 'brake-by-wire' type. The system includes a brake booster which is operable in response to the driver's wish both by a brake pedal and by an electronic control unit. A device is provided to decouple a force-transmitting connection between the brake pedal and the brake booster in the 'brake-by-wire' operating mode. A master brake cylinder connected downstream of the brake booster, a device to detect a deceleration request of the driver, and a pedal travel simulator which interacts with the brake pedal and due to which a resetting force acting on the brake pedal can be simulated in the &#x2018;brake-by-wire&#x2019; operating mode independently of an actuation of the brake booster, and which can be enabled in the &#x2018;brake-by-wire&#x2019; operating mode when the force-transmitting connection between the brake pedal and the brake booster is decoupled and can be disabled outside the &#x2018;brake-by-wire&#x2019; operating mode. The pedal travel simulator () is enabled and disabled by electromechanical means (), electrohydraulic means () or pneumatically operable means (to).

Break actuating unit for actuating a motor vehicle brake system

The present invention relates to an actuator for an electro-hydraulic braking system of the 'brake-by-wire' type comprised of a hydraulic pressure generator or master brake cylinder and a travel simulator, with said master brake cylinder including at least one piston that is operable by an actuating pedal, and wherein a device for detecting a driver's deceleration wish is provided, said device cooperating with said piston and being at least partly arranged in a master brake cylinder housing. To optimize the assembly in terms of packaging, production costs, weight, and function, the present invention discloses that the device for detecting a driver's deceleration wish comprises an annular housing embracing the piston in a radial direction and accommodating signal receiving elements which cooperate with signal transmitting elements mounted on the piston surface.

The present invention relates to an operating unit for an electrohydraulic braking system of the 'brake-by-wire' type, which is designed as a tandem master cylinder having a first and a second piston biased by each one resetting spring in opposition to the actuating direction. The first pressure chamber of the tandem master cylinder is connected to a hydraulic chamber defined by a simulator element. The simulator element also defines a simulator chamber accommodating a simulator spring and connected to a pressure fluid supply reservoir. A valve device is provided which closes or opens the hydraulic connection between the simulator chamber and the pressure fluid supply reservoir. To disclose an operating unit that permits being manufactured at low costs and allows easy bleeding, according to the present invention, the simulator element is formed of a hydraulic simulator piston and the valve device is provided by a seal arranged at the second piston and by the mouth area of a channel designed in the range of movement of the seal, the said channel forming the hydraulic connection.

The present invention discloses an actuating unit for an electromechanically operable disc brake for automotive vehicles which is generally comprised of a drive unit or an electric motor, an actuating element, by means of which one of two friction linings that are slidably arranged in a brake caliper is moved into engagement with a brake disc, as well as a first and a second reduction gear. In order to uncouple the second reduction gear from the first reduction gear, it is disclosed in the present invention that the electric motor, the first reduction gear, and the second reduction gear are configured as at least two assemblies which can be handled independently.
