A method and system for automatically changing the operation of signaling features in a telephone are disclosed. In one embodiment, a method includes: storing, in a first handset of a telephone system, quiet mode settings that specify a start time and an end time for a quiet mode signaling feature; wirelessly transmitting, from the first handset of the telephone system to a second handset of the telephone system, the quiet mode settings that specify the start time and the end time for the quiet mode signaling feature; and updating quiet mode settings for the quiet mode signaling feature in the second handset in response to receiving quiet mode settings from the first handset, and wherein the first handset and the second handset of the telephone system self-check the status of their quiet mode settings.

System and method for telephone operation in quiet mode

A method and system for automatically changing the operation of signaling features in a telephone are disclosed. In an exemplary embodiment, a method is disclosed to provide automatic reduction in the sound volume associated with the signaling features of a telephone system, during a selected portion of a day. A user is provided with a programmable menu in communication with one or more devices associated with a telephone system. From the menu provided, the user may enter a the beginning and ending time for the 'quiet mode' operation of the telephone system. In addition, the user may select the signaling features to be quieted, as well as the sound volume associated with quiet mode operation for a given signaling feature.

A method and system for registering wireless devices with a base unit that is configured to communicate wirelessly with multiple wireless devices. In one example, the wireless devices are cordless handsets of cordless telephone systems. When placed in a charging cradle, an unregistered handset displays a message indicating that the handset should be registered. A user provides local input to the base unit to activate a registration sequence. A three-way handshake is initiated at the base station, wherein a sequence of three wireless messages are passed between the base and unregistered handset. The handset displays a message indicating successful registration.

System and method for cordless handset registration

A method for adjusting caller ID information includes receiving at a call device a caller ID message that includes a calling number. An address book associated with the call device is searched. An address book telephone number having the matching area code or local exchange number is analyzed to determine if the first digits of both address book phone number and calling number constitute a '1.' If the first digit in both numbers is the same, the calling number is stored unadjusted, while if the first digits differ, the calling number is adjusted. A method for adjusting caller ID information includes comparing the format of a received calling phone number to a set of predetermined criteria that are used to enable a 'truncate' function in a context-sensitive &#x201c;delete&#x201d; button only when a predetermined criterion is met. Accordingly, a user is provided with a means to assure in a single pressing of a button that the proper deletion of numbers takes place for any calling number that is identified as needing truncation.

System and method to adjust caller ID information

A system and method for integrating heterogeneous phone message mailboxes in a common interface. A message record is created in a data structure of a local telephone device when a phone message received over a first telephone line is stored in a local answering device is completed. A message alert is received when a remote phone message is stored in a remote mailbox associated with a second telephone line linked to the local telephone device. The remote phone message is sent to the local telephone device for silent playback. The remote message is marked as old at the remote mailbox. A message record is created in the data structure corresponding to the remote message. A program operates to produce an ordered message record list in the data structure that includes, for example, an interleaved chronological list of all phone messages stored in the local and remote mailboxes.

System and method for integrating heterogeneous telephone mailboxes

The present invention provides a system and method for providing local time of a potential called party to a user of a telephone system (i.e., calling party). In the preferred embodiment, the local time of the potential called party is displayed on a display or announced by a speaker of the telephone system when the name or the telephone number of the potential called party is selected. The local time of the potential called party is provided prior to or while initiating a call so that the user of the telephone system can determine whether it is appropriate time to call the potential called party.

System and method for providing a local time of far end on telephone systems

Systems and methods for wireless communications between a cellular telephone and a landline telephone. A system includes a cellular telephone in communication with a cordless telephone base station. The cordless telephone base station includes a BLUETOOTH radio transceiver, and the cellular telephone includes a BLUETOOTH radio transceiver, so that the cellular telephone can communicate with the base station using BLUETOOTH communications. The cordless telephone base station includes a cordless radio transceiver, and a cordless handset that includes a cordless radio transceivers. The cordless handset can communicate with the cordless telephone base station using cordless radio frequency communications. The BLUETOOTH radio transceiver and the cordless radio transceiver of the cordless telephone base station are coupled so that the cordless handsets can communicate with the cellular telephone.

Systems and methods for exchanging data and audio between cellular telephones and landline telephones

A cordless telephone base unit having a dynamically changeable cellular telephone adapter and partially reconfigurable software is provided. The software includes a static portion containing core application software, and a dynamic portion containing reconfigurable driver software for interfacing with an external device such as a cellular telephone. The driver software can be downloaded from a removable cellular telephone adapter. The core software and the driver software each contain interface portions at fixed locations. The interface portions provide for transparent interaction between core application and driver software.

An enhanced and refined hash table permits access to the remote information in order or according to a search key with significant reduction in the memory requirements on the local device even though the remote information is not sorted. Scrolling through the remote data structure without accessing any unnecessary record on the remote device and hence reducing scroll response time is also achieved.

An apparatus and method for conducting a conference call between a wireless line and a land line using customer premise equipment, where a cordless telephone device connected to the PSTN includes a wireless telephone cradle for receiving a cellular telephone. Interface circuitry residing in the cordless telephone controls operation of the cordless telephone handset and the cellular handset when positioned in the cradle and connects a first call between a user and a first party via the PSTN and a second call between the user and a second party via the wireless telephone network toward establishing a conference call among the user, the first party and the second party. Echo cancellation and suppression is provided to minimize objectionable echo between the two far end parties.
