A control device and a method for operating a control device which contains function modules, a scheduler and a priority manager. The control device is connected via data lines to a system to be controlled. The priority manager assigns to the modules modifiable priorities which are then taken into account when the modules are activated by the scheduler.

A method detects mass flows to the intake manifold of an internal combustion engine having a device for controlling the air supply to the intake manifold and having a sensor for detecting the intake manifold pressure and having a control apparatus for evaluating a trace of the intake manifold pressure. In the context of the method, when the internal combustion engine is switched off, the supply of air to the intake manifold is reduced in a predetermined manner and the trace of the intake manifold pressure, which adjusts thereupon, is evaluated for detecting the mass flows.

A computer system for controlling the operation of a drive of a motor vehicle includes a plurality of different predetermined components each including at least one functional unit. Such components include a first component representing the motor vehicle as a whole and second component representing the drive. A plurality of interfaces is interposed between these components, being operative for transmitting data between such components. At least one storage stores information concerning such components and interfaces. By analysis of the course of combustion chamber pressure over the crankshaft angle, characteristic pressure courses are obtained for certain valve control times.
