The present invention provides stock solutions for production of nonlinear-optical materials using a wet coating method. In particular, the invention provides a stock solution containing a nonlinear-optically active organic compound, which is a push-pull &#x3c0;-conjugated compound having a particular chemical structure, having one or more cross-linkable functional groups. In addition, the invention provides a stock solution comprising a nonlinear-optically active organic compound having at least a certain chemical structure and a matrix-forming compound having one or more cross-linkable functional groups. Further, the invention provides a nonlinear-optical material and a nonlinear-optical device, both prepared by using the stock solutions.

The present invention provides an organic nonlinear optical material including an organic compound having nonlinear optical activity dispersed in or bonded to a polymer binder, wherein the material contains a tertiary amine derivative represented by the following formula (1) as the organic compound having nonlinear optical activity, and an organic nonlinear optical element using the same.  In the formula, Zto Zare independently aromatic groups optionally having a substituent; L is a &#x3c0; conjugated group optionally having a substituent; A is a &#x3c0; conjugated electron-attractive group which includes a ring structure optionally having a substituent; m denotes 0 or 1; a &#x3c0; conjugated system denoted by Z-Lhas, from one terminal thereof to the other terminal, five or more unsaturated bonds which form one conjugated system; and at least two of Zto Z, L and A may be connected so as to form at least one ring structure.

Photoelectric conversion element

Disclosed are a photo-semiconductive electrode that has a high light-to-electricity conversion efficiency and excellent stability and can be prepared economically and easily, and a photo-electric cell using the photo-semiconductive electrode. The photo-electric cell comprises a photo-semiconductive electrode having an electroconductive base and a light-to-electricity conversion layer formed thereon, and a counter electrode, such that the photo-semiconductive electrode and the counter electrode contact an electrolyte, wherein the light-to-electricity conversion layer holds an organic pigment. In the photo-electric cell, the photo-semiconductive electrode and the counter electrode are used integrally and disposed so that these electrodes contact the electrolyte. The organic pigment suited for use in the layer is selected from the group consisting of: phthalocyanine pigment such as titanyl phthalocyanine, chlorogallium phthalocyanine and hydroxygallium phthalocyanine; and naphthalocyanine pigments.
