An apparatus for controlling a vehicle includes an engine including at least one combustion chamber configured to generate power for driving the vehicle by combustion of fuel, a torque converter including an impeller, a turbine, and a damper clutch and configured to convert torque output from the engine through an operation fluid, a continuously variable transmission including a driving pulley, a driven pulley, and a belt, a forward clutch configured to selectively block power delivery between the torque converter and the continuously variable transmission, and a controller configured to perform a slip control of the forward clutch while the vehicle is coasting, re-inject fuel into the combustion chamber of the engine when a fuel re-injection condition is satisfied, release engagement of the damper clutch after performing a slip control of the damper clutch of the torque converter, and fully engage the forward clutch.

Apparatus and method for controlling vehicle

An upshift control system and method of an automatic transmission. The system includes a vehicle speed detector outputting a vehicle speed signal; a transmission control unit for receiving the signal, calculating a target hydraulic pressure based on a change of the vehicle speed, and outputting a control signal corresponding to the target hydraulic pressure; and an actuator for controlling an actual hydraulic pressure of an on-coming element based on the control signal. The method includes determining whether a vehicle speed changes during an upshift; calculating the change of the vehicle speed; calculating a target hydraulic pressure based on the change of the vehicle speed; and controlling an actual hydraulic pressure of an on-coming element based on the target hydraulic pressure. The target hydraulic pressure may be calculated by adding a modified hydraulic pressure, proportional to the rate of change of the vehicle speed, to a constant reference hydraulic pressure.

Upshift control system of an automatic transmission and method thereof

A method of controlling an automatic transmission includes determining whether a coast-down control condition is met, and performing coast-down control if the condition is met. The coast-down control includes selectively downshifting, such that engine speed is maintained above a fuel-cut threshold speed. The coast-down control condition may include a throttle opening being below a threshold opening, a shift-speed being higher than or equal to a threshold shift-speed, and a road slope being smaller than a predetermined slope. The method may also include determining whether a deceleration lock-up control condition is met, and performing deceleration lock-up control, including engaging a lock-up clutch, if the condition is met. The deceleration lock-up control condition may include a throttle opening being below a threshold opening, a shift-speed being below a threshold shift-speed, a brake not being operated, and a difference between an engine speed and a turbine speed being smaller than a reference value.

Method and an apparatus for controlling shifting of an automatic transmission

When a sport mode shifting request occurs during gear shifting of an automatic transmission according to a vehicle running state, a transmission control unit determines whether or not to accept the sport mode shifting request on the basis of an expected turbine speed at a target speed of currently controlled upshift and an expected turbine speed at a final target speed requested by the sport mode shifting request. By such a scheme, shift shock is reduced and responsiveness is enhanced.
