Apparatus and process for producing a hydrogen-containing product stream and a carbon monoxide-containing product stream from a crude synthesis gas produced in a syngas production unit. Carbon dioxide is removed from the process gas by a non-cryogenic means and the hydrogen-containing product stream is separated from the process gas in a pressure swing adsorber. Residual gas from the pressure swing adsorber is passed to a cryogenic separation unit where the cryogenic separation unit separates the residual gas stream into the carbon monoxide-containing product stream, a hydrogen-enriched stream, a methane-enriched stream, and a carbon monoxide-containing intermediate stream by cryogenic fractionation. At least a portion of the hydrogen-enriched stream is recycled to the pressure swing adsorber.

Process and apparatus for producing hydrogen and carbon monoxide

A steam-hydrocarbon reforming process generating a process gas containing a first amount of heat and a flue gas containing a second amount of heat includes: providing a water heater, a boiler feed water (BFW) preparation system, a boiler, and a BFW heater; feeding water to the water heater; feeding water to the BFW preparation system from the water heater; feeding a first stream of water to the boiler from the BFW preparation system; feeding a second stream of water from the BFW preparation system to the BFW heater; heating at least part of the second stream of water fed to the BFW heater with a first part of the first amount of heat; heating water in the boiler with a second part of the first amount of heat; generating steam at 5-60 psig in the boiler; and heating the BFW preparation system or another internal system with the steam.

Process to utilize low-temperature waste heat for the preparation of synthesis gas

The present invention is an apparatus arranged to maximize heat utilization for a hydrocarbon steam reforming process to produce synthesis gas. The apparatus comprises a refractory lined vessel with partition walls that divide the inside of the vessel into (1) a combustion chamber(s) containing one or more burners, and (2) convection chambers used as a means to remove combustion products from the combustion chamber through one or more openings at the opposite end of the burner end. The combustion chamber contains one or more reformer tubes in which a mixed-feed of hydrocarbon and steam flow co-current with combustion products and receive direct radiant heat from the combustion flame through the tube wall. The convection chambers contain a tube-in-tube device filled with catalyst in the annuli. The mixed-feed in the annuli flows counter-current with combustion products and the hot product synthesis gas, and thereby substantially lowers the temperature of the combustion and product gases before the gases exit the furnace. High emissivity materials or walls are used inside the convection chambers to enhance the heat transfer from the flue gas to the reformer tubes.

Apparatus and method for hydrocarbon reforming process

An apparatus for a hydrocarbon reforming process includes a combustion chamber, a convection chamber in fluid communication with the combustion chamber, at least one burner disposed in the combustion chamber, a reaction chamber, a means for flowing a first mixed-feed through a first part of the reaction chamber, and a means for flowing a second mixed-feed through an annular portion of a second part of the reaction chamber, the second part being a tube-in-tube in fluid communication with the first part. The burner(s) generates a flow of a flue gas having a sensible heat from the combustion chamber to the convection chamber. The flow of the flue gas in the convection chamber is counter-currently with the flow of the second mixed-feed.

Apparatus and method for production of synthesis gas using radiant and convective reforming

The present invention is an ammonia injection scheme for NO.sub.x reductions that also reduces ammonia slip wherein the NO.sub.x containing gas to be treated is upstream of a cyclone separator. The reduction in ammonia slip is accomplished by injecting the ammonia through the outside wall of the cyclone inlet duct.
