A mid-plane board including a first connector configured to receive a first signal from a first circuit board is provided. The mid-plane board includes a second connector configured to provide the first signal to a second circuit board. The first circuit board forms a first plane and the second circuit board forms a second plane, and the first plane and the second plane are substantially parallel. The mid-plane board also includes a cutout configured to allow a coplanar connector to bridge the mid-plane board and provide a second signal from the first circuit board to the second circuit board. The second signal is a high-end signal and the first signal is a low-end signal, and the mid-plane board is disposed on a plane substantially orthogonal to the first circuit board and the second circuit board.

A rack system for supporting a computing device includes an adaptor. The adaptor includes a first support portion defining an opening that is aligned with a rack opening of a rack support post. The first support portion and the rack support post receive a fastener through the opening and the rack opening to attach the adaptor to the rack support post. A second support portion is attached to an end of the first support portion. The second support portion includes a first wall and a second wall that are spaced apart to define a flange opening. A support arm includes a flange having a body portion and an attachment portion. The attachment portion is received within the flange opening to attach the support arm to the adaptor. A rail is attached to the body portion of the flange. The support arm is attached to the rack support post, via the adaptor.

Rack system for supporting a computing device

A calibration method for a fly on demand head of a hard disk drive. The method includes the steps of flying a head over a test track of a disk that is covered with a lubricant. A voltage is applied to a heating element of the head to move the head closer to the disk. The fly height of the head is then determined. The voltage can be incrementally varied until the head makes contact with the disk. This sequence can cause a modulated wear pattern in the lubricant of the disk. The voltage is terminated and the head is allowed to fly over the test track. The head is also moved to adjacent tracks on either side of the test track. A pressure gradient of the flying head moves the lubricant about the disk to mitigate the modulated wear pattern.

Clearance sweep test

A processor retention assembly for housing multiple processor modules is herein disclosed. The processor retention assembly has a pair of lock levers, positioned on opposite sides of the processor module, that securely fastens each processor module to a connector on a circuit board and to the processor retention assembly. The lock levers ensure that the processor module is securely fastened to the connector and to the processor retention assembly so that the processor module and the circuit board are not damaged during mechanical shock and vibration. In addition, the lock levers eliminate the need for the processor module to contain any type of lock mechanism thereby allowing the processor retention assembly to house various types of devices, including those with lock mechanisms.

A processor retention frame and incorporated processor extraction handle is described herein. The frame is fabricated from a single piece of sheet metal, holds two processor cards securely, and is easily mounted on the main system board. The extractor handle allows the easy removal of processor cards from the main system board and frame without exerting excessive force on the main system board or the processor board.

A packaging system for components of a computing system includes an external, modularized, ecto-skeletal support frame for supporting a plurality of uniformly, horizontally dimensioned cabinets in stacked arrangement. The support frame is formed from a plurality of support shelves that form the support platforms for the cabinets. Separating and support shelves are support sleeves, that can be of variable lengths in order to accommodate the varying vertical dimensions of the cabinets held by the support frame.

Packaging system

A system interconnects electronic modules with one another, to a power supply and to signal lines through a printed circuit board. The modules are electrically connected to traces on the printed circuit board using blind mateable connectors. EMI shielding plates are mounted to the circuit board at the I/O connectors for the external cables. Guide elements, such as pin and socket guides and printed circuit board edge guides, are mounted to the circuit board to guide the blind mateable connectors. The syustem eliminates the numerous cables which would otherwise be required. The printed circuit board is mounted within the system housing and acts as an air duct barrier to aid proper air circulation. The circuit board also acts as a structured element helping to stabilize the housing and various module supports and serves as a mounting structure for various elements, such as cooling fans.

A removable power supply interlock and extraction mechanism (2) includes a switch guard (16), mounted to the front panel (14) of a module (4), movable between a safe position when the power switch (12) is off to keep it off, and a working position, at which the switch can be freely turned on and off. When the module is being inserted into an electrical unit (16), an actuator (34), mounted to the front panel, is rotated in its insertion rotary direction (50) so the switch guard moves from its safe to its working position; simultaneously a latching element (62) on the actuator engages a latching surface (60) on the unit so to drive the module into the unit until the connectors on the module and unit are fully connected. To remove the module, the power switch is first turned off. The actuator is then rotated in its retraction rotary direction (52) causing the switch guard to move into its safe position to keep the switch off; simultaneously the latching element engages the latching surface to drive the module away from the unit thus disconnecting the electrical connectors.
