A data store system may include a storage device configured to store a plurality of data store tables and may include a processor in communication with the storage device. The processor may receive a plurality of requests. For each request, the processor may: (1) determine an associated workload type for the request; (2) determine a first respective rate at which the request is to be released for scheduling of execution; and (3) release the request for scheduling of execution based on the first respective rate. For each released request, the processor may: (1) determine a second respective rate based on the associated workload type at which each released request is scheduled to be executed; and (2) in response to execution being scheduled for a released request, execute the released request. A method and computer-readable medium are also disclosed.

Workload request rate control

A database system receives a query to be processed. The database system has resources. A user assigns the query to a tier of resource allocation priorities in a hierarchy of tiers. The tier has been designated as being automatically managed by the database system. The tier has a plurality of levels of priority for resource allocation (LPRAs). The database system decomposes the query into a first step and a set of subsequent steps. The first step has a beginning and each of the set of subsequent steps has a respective beginning. The database system assigns the first step to a first LPRA, wherein executing the query at the first LPRA is projected by the database system to satisfy a service level goal (SLG) within a on_schedule_range of the SLG. The database system determines during execution of the set of subsequent steps that the query is no longer projected to satisfy the SLG within the on_schedule_range of the SLG and, as a result, assigns one of the set of subsequent steps to a second LPRA different from the first LPRA, wherein executing the query at the second LPRA is projected by the database system to return execution of the query to within the on_schedule_range of the SLG.

Automatic resource allocation design for satisfying service level goals of mixed workload queries in a database system

A database system includes a parser that is capable of parsing database queries containing user-defined data type (UDT) methods. The database query is transformed by the parser into a statement according to a specified format. In performing the transformation, redundant instantiations of UDTs and invocations of methods are removed. In one implementation, the redundant instantiations and invocations are removed by grouping and combining clauses containing UDT methods.

Parsing of database queries containing clauses specifying methods of user-defined data types

Techniques are presented for skew exception detection within a parallel processing environment. A potential exception is detected when a highest load of a processor within the parallel processing environment exceeds an average load within the parallel processing environment by a given threshold. The potential exception can become a legitimate exception when it exists for a qualified period or time or when it exists and no qualified period of time is noted. In an embodiment, checks for the potential exception occur and are wholly contained within a given configurable interval.

Skew exception detection

A system, such as a database system, includes a shared library having plural routines. A linking procedure is used in which a routine (referred to as a 'first routine') is linked to a stub library containing stub programs corresponding to other routines that the first routine is authorized to invoke. If no linking error occurs, the first routine is then linked to the shared library. In some implementations, the first routine is one of a user-defined method (UDM), user-defined function (UDF), or stored procedure created in response to a database query language (e.g., Structured Query Language or SQL) statement.

Preventing unauthorized access of routines in a library

In a database system, a database request is received, and database software dispatches steps associated with the database request to plural access modules of a database system for execution. Statistics are collected regarding execution of each step by a respective access module in response to receiving an indication of completion by the respective access module. It is determined whether statistics relating to execution of the database request violate one or more predefined rules, and in response to determining that the statistics relating to execution of the database request violate one or more predefined thresholds, one or more actions are performed by the database software.

Performing actions based on monitoring execution of a query

A multi-node processing system includes a plurality of nodes in which various software components may be executed. To coordinate the control of the software components in the plural nodes, an instance of a manager module may be started in each of the nodes. In one example arrangement, the manager module may include a WINDOWS&#xae; NT or WINDOWS&#xae; 2000 service control manager. In the WINDOWS&#xae; NT or WINDOWS&#xae; 2000 environment, the software components that are controlled through the service control manager may be services. To perform control of the various software components, requests may be sent to the manager module instance in each of the nodes. The manager module then launches one or more server services in each node to perform the desired control task, which may be start the software component, monitor the software component, or terminate the software component.
