An image processing device includes a current limiter and a brightness controller. The current limiter calculates compensating data based on an on-pixel ratio of an image signal and calculates a compensation brightness data of the image signal based on the compensating data. The compensating data decreases the driving current of the image signal. The brightness controller selects one of a plurality of gamma sets and one of a plurality of dimming values based on the compensation brightness data.

A display device includes a display panel, a timing controller, and a data driver. The display panel includes a central region and a peripheral region. The timing controller converts image data to converted data so that a maximum luminance of the peripheral region is less than a maximum luminance of the central region. A display device includes a display panel including a first display area and a second display area, a primary driver integrated circuit (IC) to receive first input image of the first display area, to determine a luminance correction factor based on a sum of a first On-Pixel-Ratio (OPR) of the first display area and a second OPR of the second display area, to output a first image data signal to which the first input image data is remapped using the luminance correction factor, a secondary driver IC to receive second input image data of the second display area, to calculate the second OPR, to provide the second OPR to the primary driver IC, and to output a second image data signal to which the second input image data is remapped using the luminance correction factor, and a scan driver.

An apparatus for driving a display panel includes a first memory which stores a frame image data, a second memory which stores overshooting information. The apparatus receives an image signal from an external system via a CPU interface process. The second memory stores a difference data between the frame image data and an overshooting data. The overshoot is then calculated from the difference data and the frame image data. The apparatus also includes a two-line memory which stores an image signal of an n-th frame in a line unit and an image signal of an n&#x2212;1-th frame in another line. The two-line memory compares the consecutive two frame data, so that the apparatus extracts overshooting information from a look up table.

In one aspect, the display device includes a display unit including a plurality of pixels connected to scan lines, light emission control lines, and data lines, where each pixel is configured to emit light with a driving current corresponding to image data signals transmitted through the data lines based on light emission control signals transmitted through the light emission control lines. Each of the pixels includes subpixels, each configured to display one of a plurality of colors. The device also includes a controller configured to convert external video signals to image data signals, output the converted signals to a data driver, generate light emission driving control signals for controlling the light emission duty ratio of the light emission control signals, and calculate the pixel-on-ratio for each subpixel to reduce the driving current.

The display includes a display panel on which an image is displayed, and at least one optical sensor (photodetector) to detect the intensity of ambient (external) light incident upon the display panel. A light source apparatus includes a light source module, a luminance determiner, an illuminance sensor and a light source driver. The light source module provides a display panel with light. The luminance determiner obtains luminance data of first image data including at least white image data that is converted from image data of a red color, a green color and a blue color. The illuminance sensor obtains sensing data based upon an external illuminance. The light source driver drives the light source module based upon the luminance data and the sensing data.

Method of driving a light source, apparatus for performing the method and display apparatus having the apparatus

There are provided a TFT, a TFT substrate using the TFT, a method of fabricating the TFT substrate, and an LCD. The TFT includes a source region, a drain region, and a gate electrode having an opening. The opening of the gate electrode is to enhance the light sensing ability of the TFT when it is used as a light sensor, since light is incident into a region where the opening is formed. The TFT including the gate having the opening can be used in a substrate of a flat display or an LCD using such a substrate. The above TFT can sense light incident from outside the display to adjust the brightness of the screen according to the external illumination.

In a light sensor test unit, a test circuit is built in a display panel and connected to an output node of a light sensor which senses an intensity of an external light. When external light having a predetermined intensity is provided to the light sensor, the test circuit outputs a driving signal in response to a sensing signal output from the output node. A test pixel part includes pixels selected from a plurality of pixels arranged in the display panel and receives the driving signal from the test circuit to display a gray-scale corresponding to the driving signal. A brightness measurer measures a brightness corresponding to the gray-scale displayed in the test pixel part to compare the measured brightness with a predetermined brightness, thereby testing whether the light sensor built in the display panel is normally operated.

A liquid crystal display having a plurality of pixels and blocks of shift registers that are connected to one another for temporarily storing data signals and from which the data signal outputs are sequentially applied to drive the pixels. Each of the shift registers receives a shift start signal and at least one of first and second clock signals, of which phases are opposite to each other, and a high period of the shift start signal corresponds to two cycles of the respective clock signals so that each pixel is pre-charged from the data signal from previous block of registers before receiving the data signal for the current block thereby preventing a boundary between blocks from being visually recognized.
