A display device and a method of driving the same are provided according to one or more embodiments. According to an embodiment, the display device includes a display panel including a plurality of display blocks arranged in the form of a matrix; a plurality of lighting blocks emitting light to the display panel, each of the lighting blocks arranged so as to correspond to at least one row of the matrix and having adjustable light luminance; and a signal control unit adapted to receive an image signal, determine display block luminance of the respective display blocks when an image is displayed on the respective display blocks in accordance with the image signal, determine the light luminance of the respective lighting blocks by using the display block luminance of some display blocks corresponding to the respective lighting blocks, correct the image signal by using the light luminance and the display block luminance, and provide the corrected image signal to the display panel.

A liquid crystal display includes: a signal controller which converts a first image signal having a first gray level based on an original gamma coefficient into a second image signal having a second gray level based on a target gamma coefficient; a liquid crystal panel connected to the signal controller and which displays an image based on the second image signal; and a light-emitting unit connected to the signal controller and which provides light to the liquid crystal panel. The target gamma coefficient is less than or equal to the original gamma coefficient, and a luminance of the light provided by the light-emitting unit is adjusted by the signal controller to minimize an amount of luminance distortion of the image.

The liquid crystal display device includes: a liquid crystal panel including a plurality of display blocks and displaying an image in response to image signals; a plurality of light-emitting blocks emitting light to the liquid crystal panel and corresponding to the plurality of display blocks; a first look-up table including a normalized value obtained by normalizing an initial duty ratio corresponding to the brightness of the image to a maximum duty ratio corresponding to the maximum brightness of the image; and a timing controller receiving the normalized value corresponding to each of the light-emitting blocks from the first look-up table and using the normalized value to provide an optical data signal corresponding to each of the light-emitting blocks.

In a display apparatus according to one or more embodiments, a boosting circuit boosts an input voltage to a backlight driving voltage, and a backlight unit receives the backlight driving voltage to generate light. A backlight driving circuit controls the boosting circuit in response to a dimming signal and compensates a plurality of feedback voltages from the backlight unit to output a panel driving voltage. A panel driving circuit receives the panel driving voltage from the backlight driving circuit to output a data voltage corresponding to an image signal and receives a gate driving voltage to generate a gate voltage. A display panel displays an image in response to the gate voltage and the data voltage. Accordingly, a number of the boosting circuits for the display apparatus may decrease, thereby reducing a manufacturing cost of the display apparatus.

A display apparatus includes; a display panel which displays an image using a light, wherein the display panel is divided into a plurality of display areas corresponding to the image, a plurality of main-light source groups which each have a plurality of light sources, wherein the main-light source groups are arranged respectively corresponding to the display areas to provide the light thereto, a power source circuit is connected to each main-light source groups to provide a corresponding driving power to each of the main-light source groups, and a plurality of sub-light source groups, each of which is arranged between two adjacent main-light source groups and wherein each sub-light group receives the driving power applied to each of the two main-light source groups adjacent thereto to provide a light corresponding to an average brightness of the two adjacent main-light source groups to a border area between two adjacent display areas.

In each light emitting area, at least one light emitting diode and a bypass current path are connected in parallel between a connection node and a switching unit. Backlight unit and liquid crystal display device having the same

A backlight assembly includes a plurality of unit blocks to emit light. Each unit block includes a light-emitting part and a driving part. The light-emitting part includes at least two red light-emitting diodes (LEDs), two green LEDs, and two blue LEDs. The driving part includes a red LED-driving element that provides the red LEDs with a driving voltage, a green LED-driving element that provides the green LEDs with a driving voltage, and a blue LED-driving element that provides the blue LEDs with a driving voltage. LEDs may be driven together in a group, or may be driven individually to sequentially emit red light, green light, and blue light so a color filter is not included in a display panel having the backlight assembly. A driving element is connected to the LEDs to reduce manufacturing costs for the driving element circuits, thereby reducing manufacturing costs of the backlight assembly.
