A display control method and device are discussed. According to one aspect, the method includes dividing a screen into a first display region, on which a first broadcast signal is displayed, and a second display region having at least one sub screen, on which a second broadcast signal is displayed, the second broadcast signal being received in response to a channel searching command; and displaying a moving picture on the second display region when the user selects a second display mode, wherein the first display region is overlapped with the second display region, and wherein an on screen display (OSD) having direction key menus responsive to the control command is displayed in order to control the position of display region of the second display region.

Power supply is cut off to a data transmission/reception processing block corresponding to a mode, not determined as the operation mode. Since the local digital TV signal generator is mounted inside or outside the PC and implemented using an operating system (O/S) for PC, it is simple and easy in installation and use. Furthermore, since the streams stored in the memory device can be reduced without an external device, it is useful in view of aspects such as mobility, economical efficiency, and maintenance. Moreover, since the local digital TV signal generator can receive and store a digital TV signal which is currently broadcasting, various sources can be provided without a separate device. Also, the local digital TV signal generator may be acted as a digital VCR for home use depending on purpose of use, and may be acted as a digital DVD player if a title of a movie, for example, is provided from a DVD to adapt to the ATSC transport standards.

The HDTV receiver system includes a pre-detection processor to filter a digitized signal before detecting the sync signal. The pre-detection processor eliminates the effects of ghost signal which can cause distortion of the original sync signal. The pre-detection processor can be a tapped-delay-line filter, a blind mode equalizer, or both.

A method and apparatus for compensating for channel distortion is disclosed. In the present invention, equalization is performed in the treating sequence mode when the moving ghost does not exist in the channel and there is no possibility that the equalizer diverges, the data mode is cancelled and the equalization is carried out in the blind mode when the moving ghost does not exist in the channel but there is a possibility that the equalizer diverges, the equalizer is executed in the data mode when there is no possibility that the equalizer diverges but there exists the moving ghost including slowly moving ghosts in the channel, and the equalization is performed in the data mode and blind mode when the moving ghost exists and there is a possibility that the equalizer diverges.

Method and apparatus which compensates for channel distortion

A Viterbi decoder for receiving and decoding a signal transmitted through a transmission channel in a vestigial side band (VSB) transmission system, in a high definition television (HDTV), which operates at the same speed as a symbol rate, can simply accomplish a hardware implementation using simplified memory system and a single decoder in order to restore an encoded signal, compared to the conventional art in which 12 decoders are used in restoring the encoded signal. Also, since the memory configuration thereof is regular, when it is intended to extend the observation sections, the memory structure can be extended easily. Moreover, the present invention can be adopted by extending easily to 3-bit 8 state or above as well as to 2-bit 4-state by means of a general Viterbi decoding algorithm.
