In certain embodiments, a system comprises a connection to a network and an application server providing a cross cluster extension mobility (CCEM) service configured to receive a request from a user to log into the CCEM service from a telephony device connected to the network, prompt the user via the telephony device to provide a user ID, determine whether the user is logging in from a home cluster or a remote cluster, and perform a local extension mobility login for the user.

In one embodiment, a method for unifying rosters is provided. A client receives an escalation request associated with a first roster and responds to the escalation request. The client subscribes to the first roster as a participant in response to accepting the escalation request or subscribes to the first roster as an observer in response to denying the escalation request. The client identifies a second roster within the first roster that the client is not subscribed to and subscribes to the first roster as an observer. The client updates an entry associated with the client in the second roster to indicate that the client is subscribed to the first roster as one of a participant or an observer. The client additionally updates an entry associated with the client in the first roster to indicate that the client is subscribed to the second roster as an observer.

Unification of rosters in a communication system

A method to be executed in a session initiation protocol (SIP) environment is provided that includes detecting, by a first agent, a potential lost connection associated with a signaling path. The signaling path couples a first endpoint and a second endpoint and is operable to exchange signaling data. The potential lost connection is associated with a call between the first and the second endpoint, the first agent being associated with the first endpoint. The method also includes communicating a reinvite to a second agent that is associated with the second endpoint in order to determine whether the call between the first endpoint and the second endpoint is active.

System and method for providing a recovery mode in a session initiation protocol (SIP) environment

In one embodiment of the present invention, a method is provided for redirecting a session established between two endpoints. In such an embodiment, the method comprises receiving a SIP request to redirect the session to a third endpoint; dissociating the two endpoints; suspending a media session between the endpoints; connecting a signaling session between one endpoint and a third endpoint; and connecting the media session. In an alternative embodiment, a method is provided for referring a first endpoint to a second endpoint outside of an established dialog. In such an embodiment, the method comprises receiving a SIP REFER request specifying a uniform resource indicator associated with the second endpoint as a target; identifying a protocol associated with each endpoint; initiating a session with the first endpoint using an appropriate protocol; receiving media control information from the first endpoint; and connecting the session to the second endpoint using an appropriate protocol.

System and method for interworking communication protocols to provide supplementary services

In one embodiment, a method comprises a mobile node receiving an incoming wireless call; the mobile node determining whether enhanced services are available for the incoming wireless call based on outputting a DTMF tone on a voice channel associated with the incoming wireless call and determining whether a notify message, indicating a server providing the enhanced services has received the DTMF tone, is received on a data channel during the incoming wireless call; and the mobile node selectively initiating the enhanced services for the incoming wireless call with the server in response to determining the enhanced services are available for the incoming wireless call.

Routing calls includes receiving a call request at a call manager from a first endpoint. The call request includes a uniform resource identifier that associates with a second endpoint. A determination is made whether the call request associates with the call manager that received the call request. To route the call request, the call manager searches a call search space for a match to the call request. The call manager communicates the call request to the routing target.

A method to support cross cluster extension mobility (CCEM) in a communication network, which includes a plurality of clusters, each of the plurality of clusters including a call manager, the method includes receiving a request for cross cluster extension mobility from a user on a first telephony device located in a first cluster; adding a second telephony device in a home cluster for the user, only if the first cluster is different from the home cluster. According to an embodiment of the present invention, an apparatus for addressing compatibility in a session protocol environment is provided that includes a communications platform operable to communicate with a first endpoint and a second endpoint and to recognize signaling capabilities of the first and second endpoints. The apparatus also includes a media termination point (MTP) operable to communicate with the endpoints and the communications platform, the media termination point being provisioned by the communications platform in a stream that involves the first and second endpoints if a signaling compatibility issue is present amongst the endpoints. If an out-of-band digit from the first endpoint is received by the communications platform, the out-of-band digit is sent to the MTP, which is operable to inject a digit associated with the second protocol into the communication session such that a mapping occurs between the digits for the first and second protocols.
