In order to provide a 3V level non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery with a flat voltage and excellent cycle life at a high rate with low cost, the present invention provides a positive electrode represented by the formula: Li[Me]O, wherein 0&#x2266;&#x3b1;&#x3c;0.4, 0&#x2266;x&#x3c;2, and Me is a transition metal containing Mn and at least one selected from the group consisting of Ni, Cr, Fe, Co and Cu, said active material exhibiting topotactic two-phase reactions during charge and discharge.

The first solute is a salt having at least one fluorine atom in an anion moiety thereof, and the second solute is an inorganic borate having at least one boron atom and at least one oxygen atom in an anion moiety thereof. The inclusion of the second solute in the non-aqueous electrolyte makes it possible to reduce the amount of gas produced even if an electrochemical device including the non-aqueous electrolyte is stored at high temperatures. An electrode plate A comprising a binder mainly composed of a polymer material 'a' and an electrode plate B, having the opposite polarity to the electrode plate A, with a porous polymer layer mainly composed of the polymer material 'a' or a copolymer of the polymer material &#x201c;a&#x201d; formed thereon, are wound up in flat form to give a flat electrode plate assembly, which is soaked in a non-aqueous electrolyte and then heated and cooled, with the soaked state maintained, while pressure is applied in the direction of the thickness of the flat electrode plate assembly, to integrate the electrode plate assembly.

The present invention relates to a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery. The negative electrode of the present invention is characterized by its composite particles constructed in such a manner that at least part of the surrounding surface of nuclear particles containing at least one of tin, silicon and zinc as a constituent element, is coated with a solid solution or an intermetallic compound, which are composed of the element contained in the nuclear particles, and at least one other element except the elements contained in the nuclear particles selected from a group comprising group 2 elements, transition elements, group 12 elements, group 13 elements and group 14 elements except carbon of the Periodic Table. The electrolyte uses anion lithium salts of organic acid dissolved in organic solvent with high oxidation resistant characteristics. By adopting the above construction, a battery which generates only a small amount of gas during a high temperature storing can be obtained. Furthermore, the batteries enjoy high energy density and a lower reduction rate of discharge capacity when used repeatedly as well as high charge/discharge properties.

A polymeric solid electrolyte capable of conducting lithium ions which contains silylamide bonds in its polymer skeleton structure, for example, which is obtained by a method comprising subjecting a mixture of lithium silylamide and an organic compound having at least one carbon&mdash;carbon double bond to a polymerization in a dry atmosphere; and a lithium secondary cell using the polymeric solid electrolyte. The polymeric solid electrolyte is a &ldquo;dry&rdquo; polymeric solid electrolyte which contains counter ions forming lithium salts with lithium ions in its polymer skeleton structure and thus has a single ion electron conducting system wherein lithium ions alone are mobile ions, and hence has excellent conductivity, and further is easy to produce. The polymeric solid electrolyte can therefore be used for producing a novel lithium secondary cell which is an alternative for conventional lithium cells using an organic solvent and is safe and excellent in the capability of corresponding to a variety of shapes and has a high cell voltage.
