An on-demand predefined route automated driving vehicle comprising a vehicle-mounted controller configured to cause the vehicle to run toward a planned riding location such that the vehicle automatically runs along a predefined route which is determined in advance and in a runnable area. The vehicle-mounted controller communicates with an on-demand predefined route automated driving vehicle fleet controller. Based on route information and an in-advance vehicle dispatch command signal received from the vehicle fleet controller, the vehicle-mounted controller controls the vehicle so that the vehicle runs toward an anticipated riding location based on the in-advance vehicle dispatch command signal.

A Soft Computing (SC) optimizer for designing a Knowledge Base (KB) to be used in a control system for controlling a motorcycle is described. In one embodiment, a simulation model of the motorcycle and rider control is used. In one embodiment, the simulation model includes a feedforward rider model. The SC optimizer includes a fuzzy inference engine based on a Fuzzy Neural Network (FNN). The SC Optimizer provides Fuzzy Inference System (FIS) structure selection, FIS structure optimization method selection, and teaching signal selection and generation. The user selects a fuzzy model, including one or more of: the number of input and/or output variables; the type of fuzzy inference; and the preliminary type of membership functions. A Genetic Algorithm (GA) is used to optimize linguistic variable parameters and the input-output training patterns. A GA is also used to optimize the rule base, using the fuzzy model, optimal linguistic variable parameters, and a teaching signal. The GA produces a near-optimal FNN. The near-optimal FNN can be improved using classical derivative-based optimization procedures. The FIS structure found by the GA is optimized with a fitness function based on a response of the actual plant model of the controlled plant. The SC optimizer produces a robust KB that is typically smaller that the KB produced by prior art methods.

An engine for an outboard motor includes one or more intake conduits that extend along an engine body thereof. A bracket supports one cable terminal disposed generally in a space formed between the engine body and the intake conduits. The cable terminal includes a coupling member that has first and second coupling ends. The first coupling end is connected to a starter motor by a first cable that extends within the space. The second coupling end is positioned to expose itself between the intake conduits and is connectable to an anode of a battery disposed on an associated watercraft by a second cable. The bracket defines another cable terminal disposed generally in the space. The another cable terminal is also positioned to expose itself between the intake conduits and is connectable to a cathode of the battery by a third cable.

An engine includes an improved sensor arrangement that can decrease the possibility of damage to sensors relating to fuel injection control. The engine includes a cylinder block defining first and second banks of cylinder bores extending separately from each other. Pistons reciprocate within the respective cylinder bores. Cylinder head members are arranged to close respective ends of the first and second banks of the cylinder bores. The cylinder head members define combustion chambers together with the cylinder bores and the pistons. An air induction system is arranged to introduce air to the combustion chambers. The induction system includes first and second intake units with the first intake unit allotted to the first cylinder bank and with the second intake unit allotted to the second cylinder bank. The first and second intake units define first and second intake passages, respectively, through which the air flows. Fuel injectors are arranged to spray fuel for combustion in the combustion chambers. First and second sensors are arranged to sense a condition of the intake air. A control device is configured to control the fuel injectors based upon signals of the first and second sensors. The first sensor is disposed at the first intake unit. The second sensor is disposed at the second intake unit.

A multi-cylinder engine includes a plurality of combustion chambers and employs an improved intake pressure sensor arrangement to control fuel injection into the combustion chambers. A plurality of intake conduits define intake passages through which air flows to the combustion chambers. An intake pressure sensor senses intake pressure within the intake passages. A plurality of first conduits are coupled with an accumulator independent of one another and a second conduit is also coupled with the accumulator. The first conduits connect the accumulator to the respective intake passages. The second conduit connects the accumulator to the intake pressure sensor. A control device controls the amount of fuel injected into the combustion chambers based upon at least a signal from the intake pressure sensor.

A single conduit has an end communicating with the common chamber and another end communicating with a location that generally is at atmospheric pressure. A control valve can be provided at a location along the single conduit.

The vapor separator has a drainage mechanism to drain the fuel and an atmosphere introduction mechanism to introduce atmosphere that replaces a volume of the drained fuel. The atmosphere introduction mechanism has an operating member that has an axis along which the operating member moves. The axis preferably does not intersect with the intake conduit.

An engine includes an engine body and an air induction system. The engine body has a cylinder block that defines cylinder bores. Pistons are reciprocally disposed within the respective cylinder bores. A cylinder head member closes the respective cylinder bore to define combustion chambers together with the cylinder bores and the pistons. The air induction system is arranged to supply air to the combustion chambers. The air induction system includes intake conduits that communicate with the combustion chambers. Inlet conduits communicate with the intake conduits and extend along the intake conduits to provide a sufficiently long air intake to improve the torque characteristics of the engine. In one preferred outboard marine embodiment, this longer air intake does not require any increase in the size of the engine cowling.

A four-cycle engine includes an improved construction that is provided with an air induction system, which is suitable for low speed engine operations and which can provide an easy assembling and/or maintenance work. The engine has multiple cylinders arranged in a V-configuration. An air induction system supplies air to combustion chambers of the cylinders and includes a pair of plenum chamber members. The plenum chamber members are generally disposed on an opposite side of a crankcase relative to a crankshaft. Both the plenum chamber members are positioned in close vicinity to each other. Each one of the plenum chamber members defines a plenum. A balance pipe is affixed to both the plenum chamber members to couple together the plenum chambers.
