In one direction of transmission, an ATM switch establishes a virtual connection from any of its input ports to any of outgoing transmission links. Multiplexers receive and multiplexes user cells from the ATM switch into outbound cells having any one of all virtual channel identifiers assigned to the multiplexers and return the outbound cells to the input ports of the ATM switch, where they are routed through the virtual connections to the outgoing transmission links. In the opposite direction, the ATM switch establishes a virtual connection from any of incoming transmission links to any of its output ports. Inbound cells from the incoming links are first routed through the virtual connections in the ATM switch to demultiplexers, where they are decomposed into user cells for application to the ATM switch. Similar to the outbound cells, the inbound cells have any of the virtual channel identifiers assigned to the demultiplexers.

An object of the present invention is to provide a packet transfer method and system adapted to minimize delay in data and discard of data in a mobile communication system, and thus to provide improvements in processing ability and service quality in a base station and a switching center. A packet transfer method in a mobile communication system according to the present invention, the mobile communication system having a wire line for interconnecting a base station and a switching center, the wire line including a shared channel and a dedicated channel in which the shared channel can be shared by multiple terminals, while the dedicated channel can be used by only one of the terminals, and when a quantity of data transferred from the terminal is equal to or greater than a predetermined value, then the packet transfer method allocating the dedicated channel to the terminal, comprising that, in data transfer through the dedicated channel, when the data transferred from the terminal is waited because of an excessive quantity of transferred data, and further when a queuing data quantity of the data is equal to or greater than a predetermined delay data quantity-generating value, then another dedicated channel is allocated to the terminal, thereby transferring the data through the dedicated channel and such an additional dedicated channel until the queuing data quantity is equal to or less than a predetermined delay data quantity-restoring value.

Packet transfer method and system

A packet transfer system for transferring data from or to a plurality of terminals while sectioning the data into given data-length packets, the system having a communication system that has the plurality of terminals, a base station connected through a wireless line with the plurality of terminals and a switching office connected through one or more wired lines with the base station, the wired lines being of shared channels that the plurality of terminals can use commonly and a leased channel that one terminal can use exclusively. When the amount of data transferred from or to one of the plurality of terminals is greater than a predetermined value, one of the shared channels is assigned exclusively to the one of the plurality of terminals or the leased channel is assigned to the one of the plurality of terminals.

Packet transfer system

A small-sized light-weight tape cartridge to be installed in a recording and reproducing apparatus, for stably controlling a predetermined running speed of the tape. A clock signal is calculated from the photo-detected rotation of a reel in the cartridge by reading out from a ROM a count value per second corresponding to an accumulated counting value. The rotation speeds of the winding reel and the feeding-out reel in the cartridge are controlled so that the tape speed becomes a prescribed value. As a result, there is no need for a capstan motor, and the tape, a drum, the winding reel, the feeding-out reel and a control driving system are accommodated in a small-sized tape cartridge housing that is removably installed in the recording and reproducing apparatus.

Each of communication terminals for use in a communication system which performs voice communications and data communications has an individual database which manages mobility information of its own and other communication terminals. The mobility information managed by the individual database includes subscriber numbers, subscribers' names, authentication numbers, date and time information, incoming call destination priority information, terminal types, location registration information, incoming call addresses, etc. of its own and other communication terminals.

Communication system

In assignment of radio channels to terminals for communication with a switching office, one of currently idle channels can be assigned to a calling terminal by use of a channel state memory in the office which memory stores channel numbers and terminal information currently using channels. The office further includes a terminal memory for storing the maximum number separately predetermined for each of fixed and mobile types of the terminals assignable to the channels. The calling terminal is rejected to be assigned with any idle channel when the maximum number is equal to the current number of terminals currently using channels which are same as the type of the calling terminal. In another aspect, the terminal memory further stores information that the fixed type has a priority. An idle channel is assigned to a calling one of fixed type terminals even when the maximum number for the fixed type is equal to or smaller than the current number. In other aspect, the channel state memory stores receiving signal strengths at terminals currently using the channels. When a calling is originated from one of fixed type terminals and when all of the channels are currently used, one of the mobile terminals using a specific channel at the lowest one of the receiving signal strengths is forced to release the specific channel, which channel is in turn assigned to the calling fixed type terminal.

A radio communication system includes a radio port, a fixed radio terminal, a memory unit, a notification unit, and a mobile radio terminal. The radio port communicates in a service area by using a predetermined radio frequency which is multiplexed by time division into a plurality of radio channels. The fixed radio terminal is stationarily set in the service area of the radio port and has a first transmission/reception unit for communicating with the radio port by using a radio channel which is permanently assigned in advance. The memory unit stores the radio channel assigned in advance to the fixed radio terminal. The notification unit provides information, including channel information stored in the memory unit, in the service area of the radio port through the radio port. The mobile radio terminal communicates with the radio port by using a radio channel not assigned to the fixed radio terminal on the basis of the channel information provided in the service area of the radio port.
