It is an object to obtain an optical connector capable of implementing a more reduction in a cost of a work for carrying out an assembly into a site optical fiber, and a method of assembling the optical connector. An almost sheet-like protecting memberfor transmitting a light in a predetermined refractive index is stuck to a tip surface of a ferrulehaving a fiber inserting holepenetrating therethrough with the fiber inserting holecovered, and an optical fiberpositioned by a positioning mechanismto be coupled to a rear part of the ferrulehas a tip surface inserted through the fiber inserting holeof the ferruleto abut on the protecting memberwith an elastic force.

Optical connector and method of assembling the same

An optical connector in which works of attaching an incorporated optical fiber to a ferrule, removing a coating of the tip end side of a coated optical fiber, and attaching an optical connector to the coated optical fiber can be made more efficient, and the transmission characteristics can be prevented from being lowered in the optical connector, and a method of attaching the optical connector to a coated optical fiber are provided. An optical connectorincludes: a ferruleinto which a glass fiberthat is obtained by peeling a coatingof a coated optical fiberis to be inserted; a fixing portionwhich fixes the coated optical fiberinserted into the ferrule; and a coating-removing portionwhich removes the coatingfrom an end portion of the coated optical fiber, by means of a force of inserting the coated optical fiberinto the optical connector
