A male connector (M) has male housings (A,B,C) and is connectable with a female connector (F) with female housings (A,B,C). Error connection preventing projections (A,B) of the male housings (A,B) are received in receiving portions (A,B) of the female housings (A,B) to connect the two connectors (M, F) properly if the combination of the housings in the male and female connectors (M, F) is correct. However, the error connection preventing projections (A,B) on the male housings (A,B) interfere with opposed the female housings (B,C) and hinder connection of the two connectors (M, F) if the combination of housings is incorrect.

Split-type connector assembly and method of assembling it

In order to prevent terminal fittings of a card edge connector from short circuiting, a housing is provided with a short circuit preventing member made from insulating material. This short circuit preventing member can be moved between a short circuit preventing position, between resilient contacts of terminal fittings provided at mutually opposing upper and lower locations, and a retreated position, which is to the posterior of the short circuit preventing position. Since the upper and lower terminal fittings are prevented from short circuiting when the short circuit preventing member is in the short circuit preventing position, the resilient contacts are bendable to a greater degree, thus increasing their contacting force with contacts of a card edge connector.

Card edge connector

A watertight connector includes male and female housings ( ). The male housing ( ) has an engaging end surface ( A) with a mounting recess ( ) in which a seal ( ) is mountable. The seal ( ) has sealing portions ( ) to be fitted around outer surfaces of pillars ( ) that surround male terminal fittings ( ). A lattice-shaped array of press-in grooves ( ) is provided between the sealing portions ( ), and a peripheral press-in groove ( ) is formed between the sealing portions ( ) and the mounting recess ( ). A peripheral rib ( ) and a lattice-shaped array of ribs ( ) project from an engaging end surface ( A) of the female housing ( ). The ribs ( ) enter the press-in grooves ( ) as the housings ( ) are connected and come into sealing contact with the outer circumferential surfaces of the sealing portions ( ).

Watertight connector and sealing member

A watertight connector is provided to create a reduced degree of connection resistance. The connector includes a female housing to be connected with a male housing . A seal is provided on the front surface of the female housing , and is held by a seal holder . The seal holder presses the seal against the front surface of an accommodating portion to adhere the seal to front opening ends of cavities before the housings are connected with each other. Thereafter, tabs penetrate the seal , and the seal adheres to the outer surfaces of the tabs to provide sealing between the cavities . Accordingly, during the connection of the housings , resistance resulting from the sealing between the cavities is only sliding-contact resistance created between the outer surfaces of the tabs and the seal member

Water proof connector

A connector is provided to achieve individual water protection while reducing connection force without complicating the construction of housings. The connector includes female housing with an inner housing formed with cavities into which female terminal fittings are insertable and an outer housing accommodating the inner housing . A male housing is provided with a smaller receptacle into which the inner housing is fittable, and male terminal fittings are mounted to project into the smaller receptacle . A second gelatinous material is mounted on a back surface A of the smaller receptacle in advance while being penetrated by the male terminal fittings . As the housings are connected, the second gelatinous material is compressed between the back surface A of the smaller receptacle and a front surface A of the inner housing , thereby providing water protection between the housings and between the respective cavities of the inner housing

Connector housing for a watertight connector and a watertight connector

Connector

A blade type terminal fitting (,) has blades (,A,,B) which cut through wire insulation (,) to contact a wire core (,). To prevent widening of the blades (,A,,B) as the wire is pressed in, a jig (,) includes pressing members (,) to prevent outward movement of the blades (,A,,B). A more secure electrical connection is obtained.

Electrical connector housing with cavity and terminal fitting with insulation displacement contact blades and method of attaching a wire thereto

To increase the accuracy of the slot dimension of a pressure contact terminal fitting, a pair of anteriorly and posteriorly located pressure contact blades 22 and 23, engage protrusions 26 and 27 formed in the terminal base. The position of the blades 22 and 23 is thus maintained against deformation loads.

Terminal fitting

A pressure contact electrical terminal (20) is formed by bending inwards upper ends of left and right side walls (21), a pair of left and right pressure contact blades (22) being provided anteriorly and posteriorly, and connected by means of a connecting arm (23). In this manner, when an external tensile force is applied to an electric wire W, a change in shape of the pressure contact blades (22) in the direction of the pulling force is avoided.

A connector in which the deformation of lock portions is prevented, and the connector can have a compact design, and housings are prevented from being displaced with respect to each other in both longitudinal and transverse directions. Transverse grooves of a dovetail shape are formed respectively in widthwise opposite ends of an upper surface of a lower housing at a front end portion thereof, and longitudinal grooves of a dovetail shape are formed in a widthwise central portion of this upper surface. Transverse ribs of a dovetail shape are formed respectively at widthwise opposite ends of a lower surface of an upper housing at a front end portion thereof, and longitudinal grooves of a dovetail shape are formed on a widthwise central portion of this lower surface. The transverse ribs are greater in projecting height than the longitudinal ribs. When the ribs are press-fitted respectively into the associated grooves, the two housings are locked together. When an external force of above a predetermined level is applied so as to separate the two housings from each other, the ribs are withdrawn respectively from the grooves, thereby disconnecting the two housings from each other.

Block connector

An electrical terminal has inwardly directed blades (21,22) to cut through insulation and make contact with an electrical core wire. Two sets of axially spaced blades are provided to increase security. The front set of blades (21) is bent in from opposite sides whereas the rear set is bent up from the base. This configuration gives a short terminal length without risk of deformation when the usual wire barrels (13) are crimped.

Pressure contact terminal fitting

To prevent the disengagement of housings by a simple construction, four projections 14 stand on the upper surface of a lower housing 1, and round holes 14 into which the corresponding projections 14 are fitted are formed in the lower surface of the upper housing 2. The end face of each projection 14 is bevelled to form a tapered guide surface 15. When the upper housing 2 is placed on the lower housing 1, the housings 1, 2 are locked by the lock portions 5, and the projections 14 and the round holes 16 provided on the surfaces of the housings 1, 2, which come together are engaged in four positions. In this way, the relative rotation of the housings 1, 2 is prevented and such a force as to elastically deform the lock portions 5 does not act. The projections 14 and the round holes 16 are engaged with each other by being guided by the guide surfaces 15, thereby easily positioning the housings 1, 2. Thus, the housings 1, 2 can be smoothly placed one over the other.

A block connector is provide to facilitate a disengaging operation. The block connector invention is constructed by placing an upper housing A and a lower housing B one over the other. Lock projections A7, A8 are provided at front and rear sides of the left and right side surfaces of the upper housing A, and corresponding lock holes B3, B5 are provided in the lower housing B. The lock projections A7, A8 are formed with locking surfaces A7b, A8b and disengagement guide surfaces A7c, A8c for smoothly disengaging the lock projections A7, A8 from the lock holes B3, B5. Further, jig insertion holes B6 for inserting a disengaging jig E are formed in the front surface of the lower housing B. The lock projection A7 and the lock hole B3 can be disengaged by inserting the disengaging jig E into the jig insertion hole B6 and prizing the jig insertion hole B6 with the disengaging jig E. Thereafter, if the forcibly opened front ends of the housings A, B are rotated about the rear ends thereof, the lock projections A8 and the lock holes B5 can be disengaged.

A pressure contact terminal (10) has a pair of anterior and posterior pressure contact blades (17) formed thereon to define pressure contact grooves (20). A pushing-in member (23) is provided that fits into the terminal and has pressure contact grooves (27) formed on anterior and posterior end faces. The upper ends of the pressure contact grooves (27) have pressing-down members (28) for pressing down an electric wire (1) to a specified extent. After placing an end of the electric wire (1) on the pressure contact blades (17), the pushing-in member (23) is placed thereon and clamped using pliers P. Locking protrusions (31) enter locking holes (32) to retain the pushing-in member (23).

A divided connector is provided to reduce engaging forces and to enable a simplified engagement detection. The connector has male and female connector housings 1, 2; 51, 60 each carrying a group of terminal fittngs 7, 7a, 12. Either one of the connector housings 1, 2; 51, 60 is divided into a plurality of housing pieces 3, 4; 61, 62, 63 so as to be fittable and engageable with a plurality of corresponding accommodation positions in the other connector housing 1, 2; 51, 60. The connector has a controller 14-16; 18-25; 45, 47, 48; 65-74; 114-124 for controlling the fitting and/or engagement of a previously fitted and/or engaged housing piece 3, 4; 61, 62, 63, and engagement detector means 7a, 27-43 for detecting whether or not the last housing piece 3, 4; 61, 62, 63 was properly engaged.
