A computer network server provides a customized newspaper to a recipient according to recipient profile preferences. The server searches for and obtains article content that is deemed to be of greatest interest to the recipient according to topical preferences, generates a representation of the selected content according to a layout preference, and delivers the representation to the recipient according to a designated schedule. Recipient preferences are received and stored in a profile database using facilities that assist a recipient to specify preferred topics, newspaper layout, delivery schedule and destination. Topical designations are mapped into hierarchical structures that facilitate searching content databases. Newspaper articles are arranged according to relative priorities of designated topics.

Providing a network-based personalized newspaper with personalized content and layout

A method and apparatus wherein category classes which express information content categories are defined based on object-oriented programming. The information items that are to be collected for each category are set as properties, and an information acquisition method or information process and treatment method is described for each property. After a request input from a user has been converted into a request input format the system can understand, the request input is classified into category classes, searching is performed, and the information items the system outputs are displayed using the properties of the classes to which the request input belongs. Information searching and collection is accomplished on the basis of the contents described by said methods, and the information is output as comprehensive information in accordance with the request input of the user.

Information search and collection method and system

A disk drive includes a data recording disk and disk head for recording data and reproducing data from the disk. Arms support the disk head. An actuator drives the arm moving the disk head to a predetermined data recording track of the disk. A spindle motor rotates the disk. An actuator unit moves the disk head to select a track on the disk. First positioning data for positioning the disk head is provided on at least one data surface. Second positioning data is provided at at least one data surface. A control is coupled to the actuator for controlling the positioning of the disk head and the searching of the disk in response to the first and second positioning data. The second positioning data may be located on positioning tracks not used for data. The second positioning information as part of a second positioning data is stored. The disk head position is compensated by the stored second positioning information which is superimposed with the first position data.

Head positioning control for a spindle motor disk drive

A disk drive includes media for recording data, disk heads for recording data and reproducing data on the disks. The heads are supported on arms. A head actuator drives the arms moving the head to a predetermined data recording track on the disk. A spindle motor rotates the disk at a predetermined rotating speed. The spindle motor includes a rotor magnet disposed within a stator coil. The disk head and actuator motor are mounted on a pivot on opposed sides of each other. To control head positioning, first positioning data for positioning the disk heads and second positioning data are provided on each data surface. This data is detected by a data head. Second positioning data may be positioned on tracks not used for containing data. The head position is compensated by the stored second positioning information superimposed on the first positioning data.
