A rotation speed detector includes: a base material to be attached to a rotating body; a first magnetic pole having an arcuate strip shape and provided on the base material; a second magnetic pole having an arcuate strip shape and provided on the base material; and a power generation element including a magnetic wire configured to cause a large Barkhausen effect, and a pickup coil. The power generation element is arranged to face the first magnetic pole and the second magnetic pole so that a longitudinal direction of the magnetic wire is provided along a radial direction of the first magnetic pole and the second magnetic pole. A non-magnetic gap is provided between the first magnetic pole and the second magnetic pole.

Rotation speed detector

A power generation element includes a magnetic member that produces a large Barkhausen effect and magnetism collection members including an insertion part having the magnetic member inserted therethrough. The magnetism collection member includes a first component on an opposite side of a boundary plane to a magnetic field generation unit and a second component on the same side of the boundary plane as the magnetic field generation unit, the boundary plane passing through a center of an imaginary circle inscribed in the insertion part and having a diameter equal to a length of the insertion part in a third direction perpendicular to first and second directions, the first direction is a direction of the insertion of the magnetic member, and the second direction is a direction in which the magnetic field generation unit is disposed. A volume of the second component is larger than a volume of the first component.

A cooling device for a notebook personal computer which has a personal computer body accommodating an exothermic electronic element and a display hinged in an openable/closable manner to the personal computer body through a hinge mechanism, including a first heat pipe having a first end portion arranged along the display and a second end portion arranged in parallel with a center line of rotation of said hinge mechanism; a second heat pipe having a first end portion arranged on the electronic element in a heat transferable manner and a second end portion arranged in thermal contact with the second end portion of said first heat pipe; and a connector defining a first hole having an axis and configured to receive the second portion of the first heat pipe, a second hole having an axis different from the axis of the first hole and configured to receive the second portion of the second heat pipe, the first and second holes communicating with each other; wherein at least one of the second end portions is positioned on the center line of rotation of the hinge mechanism. The connector and one of the heat pipes, having a relatively rotatable second end portion, can form a hinge between the personal computer body and the display.

A video contrast enhancer enhances luminance contrast by dividing each video frame or field into blocks, calculating a mean luminance level for each block, selecting mapping functions on the basis of these mean luminance levels over a series of frames or fields, and mapping the video luminance levels according to the selected mapping functions. Color-saturation contrast is enhanced by modifying the amplitude of the modulated chrominance signal by the histogram equalization method, preferably by making a single linear modification in each period of the chrominance signal, so that color phase is not affected. For video signals with non-picture bands, these enhancements are preferably restricted to the picture area. If a black offset is present, it is preferably removed.

Motion-adaptive chrominance-luminance separation of a composite video signal is accomplished by comb-filtering the video signal on the time axis, bandpass-filtering the video signal on at least one spatial axis selected according to spatial correlation detected in the video signal, and combining the two filtered results in proportion to motion detected in the video signal. Motion is detected in part by obtaining a one-frame difference signal that has been filtered to eliminate chrominance information; here too the filtering is performed on at least one spatial axis selected according to spatial correlation. Selecting the spatial filtering axes according to spatial correlation enables chrominance and luminance to be separated effectively without unnecessary information loss.

Chrominance-luminance separation method and filter performing selective

A motion-adaptive scanning-line conversion circuit which converts part or the entirety of a first video signal into a second video signal. The circuit includes a data reducing circuit, such as a low pass filter and a decimator, which lowers the sampling frequency of the first video signal to reduce the amount of data in the first video signal. The conversion circuit can also include a detection circuit which detects the vertical edge of a stationary part of a picture represented by the reduced first video signal, and a motion detection circuit which determines the amount of motion of the pixels in the reduced first video signal. Based upon the detection of a vertical edge, a selection circuit selects between an output of an inter-field scanning-line conversion circuit and an intra-field scanning-line conversion circuit operating on the reduced first video signal and the first video signal, respectively.
