The body further has a plurality of short fibers in the rubber composition. The plurality of short fibers may include a plurality of poly-p-phenylene benzobisoxazole fibers.

A method of bonding an ethylene&bull;&agr;-olefin rubber composition with a fiber material. The method includes the steps of adhesion treating the fiber material with a resorcinol-formalin-rubber latex with an ethylene&bull;&agr;-olefin elastomer latex and vulcanization bonding the adhesion-treated fiber material together with an unvulcanized ethylene&bull;&agr;-olefin rubber composition.

A power transmission belt having a body with a length, an inside, an outside, and laterally oppositely facing side surfaces. The body has a) a cushion rubber layer in which at least one load carrying element is embedded so that the at least one load carrying element extends lengthwise relative to the body, and b) a compression rubber layer. Fabric material is provided on one of the inside and outside of the body. The fabric material is treated with a mixture of carbon-black-dispersed liquid and resorcinol-formalin-latex liquid.

A method of bonding an ethylene.&agr;-olefin rubber composition to a fiber cord. The method includes the steps of: treating a fiber cord with a first treating solution that is at least one of an isocyanate compound and an epoxy compound; after treating the fiber cord with the first treating solution, treating the fiber cord with a second treating solution including resorcinol-formalin-rubber latex; after treating the fiber cord with the second treating solution, treating the fiber cord with a third treating solution including a halogenated polymer and a vulcanizing agent; and after treating the fiber cord with the third treating solution, vulcanization-bonding an unvulcanized ethylene.&agr;-olefin rubber composition to the fiber cord.

Method of bonding an ethylene-&agr;-olefin rubber composition to a fiber cord and a fiber cord-rubber laminate made according to the method

Processed fiber for bonding to a rubber composition. The processed fiber consists of unprocessed fiber treated with a) a first processing liquid having at least one of an isocyanate compound and an epoxy compound, b) a second processing liquid having RFL that includes at least one rubber latex selected from acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber latex and hydrogenated nitrile rubber latex, and c) a third processing liquid having rubber paste including acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber composition dissolved in a solvent and an isocyanate compound. The weight ratio of the isocyanate compound to the acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber composition is from 1/1 to 1/3. The third processing liquid has a solid content of from 3-7%.

Processed fiber which is bondable to a rubber composition and a power transmission belt incorporating the processed fiber

A power transmission belt having a body with a length, an inside, an outside, laterally spaced sides, and at least one rib. The body has a compression section, a tension section, and a load carrying element between the inside and outside of the body and extending in a lengthwise direction. The load carrying element is made from twisted polyester fiber filaments having an ethylene-2,6-naphthalate component and a denier of 4,000-8,000. The belt requires a stress of at least 500 N per rib to effect elongation of the belt by 3%. The belt has a dry heat shrinkage stress between 100 N and 200 N after an initial load of 147 N is applied to the belt and the belt is allowed to reside in an atmosphere at a temperature of 100&deg; C. for 30 minutes.

V-ribbed power transmission belt

A load carrying cord for a power transmission belt. The load carrying cord has a plurality of strands made up of fiber filaments of ethylene-2,6-naphthalate. Each strand has a denier of 500 to 1500. The fiber filaments in each strand are first-twisted in a first direction. The plurality of strands are combined by final-twisting in a second direction oppositely to the first direction. The resulting load carrying cord has a denier of 3,000 to 10,000.

Load carrying cord and power transmission belt incorporating the load

A component for a power transmission belt. The component is a fiber cord that is treated in a first step with at least one of a) an isocyanate compound and b) an epoxy compound such that after the first step the at least one of the isocyanate compound and epoxy compound is present in solid form in an amount equal to 0.5 to 2.0 weight %. The fiber cord is treated after the first step in a second step with an RFL liquid so that the percentage void in the cord, as determined by the following formula, is not greater than 1.5%:
