A surface fastener engaging member manufacturing method includes: extruding from an extrusion nozzle a predetermined width of molten resin; introducing the molten resin into a predetermined gap between the extrusion nozzle and a die wheel to fill up coupling element molding cavities with the molten resin as the die wheel rotates in one direction; continuously molding a multiplicity of coupling elements integrally on the front surface of a continuous board-shaped base layer as the die wheel is rotated; applying a porous backing material to the base layer under pressure while the base layer is moved in response to the rotation of the die wheel; cooling the die wheel to a predetermined temperature; and positively pulling the base layer with the backing material attached thereto as cooled, from the die wheel as the molded coupling elements of the engaging section are removed off the coupling element molding cavities.

Method and apparatus for manufacturing a material-backed engaging member

A method and an apparatus for easily producing a double-sided surface fastener molded integrally in a simple process, which provides easy disengagement in spite of high engaging strength and high durability in repetitive use. A molten resin is extruded from an extrusion nozzle at the predetermined width and is introduced into a predetermined gap between upper and lower die rollers which are disposed up and down with the gap and are provided with a plurality of engaging element forming cavities on the respective peripheries and cooling means in the inner portions. The upper and lower die rollers are concurrently driven and rotated in the extrusion direction of the molten resin while filling the engaging element forming cavities with the molten resin, so that a plurality of hook elements are continuously molded integrally on the both front and back surfaces of a plate-like base portion and are cooled to the predetermined temperature. The engaging elements of cooled resin molded article are removed from the cavities and are positively drawn out in the extrusion direction of the molten resin.

An apparatus for applying a coating composition to one side of each of several surface type fastener tapes in order to establish the positive anchorage of interengageable hooks or loops on the other side of the tape. Included is a coating roller partly dipped in the coating liquid in an open top receptacle and extending across the fastener tapes traveling in parallel spaced relation to one another. Held against the surface of this coating roller, a doctor blade has several recesses defined in its scraping edge so as to be in register with the fastener tapes traveling in contact with the coating roller. Thus the doctor blade is effective to scrape off the coating liquid only from those parts of the coating roller surface which do not make contact with the fastener tapes, thereby precluding the possibility of the coating liquid from flowing over the selvages of the fastener tapes onto the other sides of the tapes carrying the hooks or loops.

An apparatus for feeding an elongate surface tape or a strip of piled, plushed or tufted textile along a predetermined path has a drive roller which has a multiplicity of wire bristles planted in its surface for releasable engagement with the strip. Disposed upstream of the drive roller with respect to a predetermined traveling direction of the strip, an idler roller is also provided with a multiplicity of wire bristles for releasable engagement with the strip. The idler roller is constantly braked to hold the strip under tension as it extends over the two rollers. The wire bristles on the rollers may be either straight or bent and may either extend radially of the rollers or be inclined in prescribed directions with respect to the traveling direction of the strip.

A harness for narrow-fabric weaving looms comprises a plurality of heddles, and a rectangular heddle frame including first and second pairs of heddle-supporting bars projecting from opposed vertical frame sides toward and terminating short of each other, the heddles being divided into two groups carried separately by the first and second pair of bars at opposite ends of each heddle. The harness further includes a pair of connectors each connecting one of the first pair of bars and one of the second pair of bars at their free ends, thereby preventing the heddle-supporting bars from shaking or vibrating during weaving.

A harness for narrow-fabric weaving looms comprises a plurality of heddles, a rectangular heddle frame including at least one pair of horizontal bars projecting from one of opposed vertical frame sides for supporting thereon the heddles at opposite ends of each heddle, and a heddle retainer on the heddle frame for preventing the heddles from shifting on the horizontal bars. The heddle retainer includes an elongate strip having a portion extending parallel to the horizontal bars. The portion of the strip is engageable with the heddles at one of the opposite ends of each heddle.
