According to one embodiment, a projection display device comprises a light modulator configured to receive light from a light source and emit an optical image modulated based on an image signal, a projector configured to project the optical image emitted from the light modulator onto a screen, and a correction unit configured to correct a distortion of the optical image which is projected onto the screen with an optical axis of the projector being not perpendicular to the screen, wherein the correction unit corrects the optical image which is projected onto the screen so that a shape of the optical image becomes a rectangle and any one of boundary sides of a rectangular optical image is aligned with a long boundary side of a trapezoidal projectable area of the projector.

Projection display device and display method

A light device has a plurality of light sources, and laser beam sources are arranged near a discharge bulb so that the laser beam can be overlapped with illuminating light from the discharge bulb. By doing so, the illuminating light is irradiated as overlapped illuminating light reinforcing red component, so that color rendering and luminance can be improved.

The illumination device has a simple structure and a small size, can obtain a sufficient illumination light amount, and can improve illumination ability, with high reliability and high performance at low costs. A kaleidoscope is arranged such that its center axis substantially corresponds to the optical axis of a light bulb. The kaleidoscope includes a diffusive reflection surface in its rear side, and a laser beam is irradiated on the diffusive reflection surface from the opening side of the kaleidoscope, so that reflection light from the diffusive reflection surface is used as at illumination light source.

Illumination device for projection-type display and projection-type display apparatus

A projection type image display apparatus for projecting an image onto a screen includes a light source, a beam shape converter, a beam divider, a beam superimposer, a processing unit, and a projection lens. In operation, the light source emits a light beam. The beam shape converter converts a sectional shape of the light beam into a different shape. For example, the beam shape converter can convert a circular cross section into a rectangular cross section. The beam divider then spatially divides the converted light beam into plural light beams. The beam divider can include, for example, a first prism array that divides the converted light beam horizontally and vertically into four beams. The beam superimposer superimposes the plural light beams onto a target surface, such as a liquid crystal panel. The beam superimposer can include, for example, a second prism array and a beam collimator that superimpose the plural light beams on the target surface. The processing unit supplies a signal so as to display an image on the target surface. The projection lens projects the image onto the screen by the superimposed beam. This apparatus can improve the uniformity of illuminance distribution and the light utilization efficiency, while maintaining high directivity of light.

Illumination apparatus and a projection type image display apparatus using it

NTSC convergence adjusting data corresponding to a plurality of portions on a display screen is stored in a data storage section in advance. Convergence adjusting data is stored in a field memory in a NTSC scanning mode. Adjusting data transferred to the memory is supplied to a vertical interpolation circuit, and interpolation adjusting data between the adjusting points is created using the plurality of adjusting data and interpolation coefficients. Data output from the vertical interpolation circuit is A/D-converted, and supplied to a deflection coil through a low pass filter as a convergence correction signal. In a scanning mode, convergence adjusting data is created with use of NTSC convergence adjusting data by a control microcomputer so as to be stored in the frame memory.

Digital convergence apparatus

A field memory stores convergence adjusting data which corresponds to a plurality of points on a display screen. An interpolation calculation circuit creates interpolation convergence adjusting data for correction points located between adjacent adjusting points, using a plurality of adjusting data items and interpolation coefficients. The output of the interpolation calculation circuit is subjected to digital/analog conversion and passed through a low-pass filter, thereby forming a convergence correction signal. This correction signal is supplied to each deflection coil. At the time of creating interpolation adjusting data for a point located between adjusting points, an optimal interpolation coefficient is output from a ROM or a ROM, depending upon whether the point is included in the odd or even field.

A digital convergence apparatus using two different kinds of data to correct the convergence of odd and even scanning lines, respectively. A first memory stores data for the convergence correction corresponding to plural correction executing points aligned in the horizontal or vertical direction of a screen. A first static convergence data memory stores a first static convergence correction data for correcting the entire screen in the same direction, a second static convergence data memory stores a second static convergence correction data different from the first static convergence correction data only by an amount corresponding to the distance between the scanning lines. Selecting means select the output of the first or the second static convergence data memory according to the odd field period or the even field period. Adding means add the output of the selecting means to the data stored in the first memory. Vertical interpolating means interpolate the output of the adding means in the vertical direction, and a convergence correction coil corrects the convergence based on the output of the adding means.
