A small watercraft includes expanded storage capacity so as to accommodate more of the type of articles that rider's typically what to carry on the watercraft. Such articles include, for example, towels, water skis, tow ropes, etc. At least one of the storage compartments on the watercraft is formed by an opening on an upper deck section. A container is affixed to the deck below the opening and has an upper end defined by a flange that extends from walls of the container. The flange is attached to an interior wall of the upper deck section so that the container and the corresponding upper deck section form a storage compartment. The upper end of the container, however, has a larger area than the opening in the deck so as to maximize the storage space within the compartment without weakening the deck and minimizing the area through which water can enter the hull.

A jet propulsion unit for a small watercraft including a secondary thrust arrangement. The secondary thrust arrangement includes a primary valve and a secondary valve arrangement. At least one discharge port is disposed on a hull of the watercraft. A jet propulsion unit is configured to discharge pressurized water from the steering nozzle in a substantially rearward direction from the watercraft or to discharge pressurized water through at least one discharge port disposed in the outer surface of the hull to achieve enhanced steering control of the watercraft.

Secondary thrust arrangement for small watercraft

A personal watercraft sponson arrangement has sponsons that are configured so as to improve buoyancy and stability upon leaning. The sponsons are designed to be detachably affixed to the hull of the watercraft through the use of a coupling system.

A personal watercraft exhaust system, hull underplate, and speed sensor and sponson arrangement. The exhaust system for the engine provides a compact assembly that incorporates a pair of expansion chamber devices on opposite sides of the tunnel to provide a water-trap effect, effective silencing, and still clear storage compartments of the hull. The sponsons are configured so as to improve the buoyancy and provide stability upon leaning, and the underplate mounts a speed sensor to the rear of but below the jet propulsion unit discharge so as to provide a good speed signal and to protect the speed sensor.
