A battery pack has bus bars, a battery stack which is an assembly of plural battery cells, a bus bar casing which supports a bus bar casing, and a cover member. Electrode terminals of battery cells adjacently arranged in the battery stack are connected together through the bus bars. An upstream side passage and a downstream side passage are formed between the bus bars and the cover member. Upstream side wall surfaces forming an inlet part of the upstream side passage or downstream side wall surfaces forming an outlet part of the downstream side passage is arranged at a location closer to the battery cell side than a location of a surface of the bus bar side.

Battery pack

Each battery module of a battery pack includes a stack of serially connected battery cells, a gas discharge duct extending in a cell arrangement direction to guide gas discharged from a relief valve of each battery cell to an outside of the battery module, the gas discharge duct having a first connection opening at one end and a second connection opening at the other end, a first connection terminal piece having an inner end portion electrically connected to an electrode of one of the battery cells at one end of the serial connection and an outer end portion disposed inside the first connection opening, and a second connection terminal piece having an inner end portion electrically connected to an electrode of another one of the battery cells at another end of the serial connection and an outer end portion disposed inside the second connection opening.

A starter for automotive engines is provided which is equipped with a planetary gear train working as a speed reducer. The starter also includes a partition plate and a thrust washer. The partition plate extends radially of the starter between an electric motor and a planetary gear train to isolate the planetary gear train from a motor chamber. The thrust washer extends radially of the starter in abutment with the partition plate so as to bear a thrust load, as transmitted from the planetary gear train. The thrust washer also includes an outer peripheral portion which is placed between a rear end surface of an internal gear of the planetary gear train and the front end surface of the partition plate and has an elastic mechanism working to elastically urge the internal gear of the planetary gear train frontward in the axial direction of the starter.

The DC motor of the starter includes first and second field coils, an armature coil series-connected to one ends of the first and second field coils through a brush device, a connector bar to which other ends of the first and second field coils are connected, a motor lead joined to a joint point of the connector bar at one end thereof, and an electromagnetic switch operative to connect the other end of the motor lead to a battery. The connector bar is made of steel, the other end of the first field coil is connected to a first connection point in the connector bar, and the other end of the second field coil is connected to a second connection point. The distance between the joint point and the second connection point is longer than a distance between the joint point and the first connection point.
