In order to carry out a display reset operation, a segment driver and a common driver are driven to operate as below during a display data reading period in which voltages to be applied to a liquid crystal display panel are nonuniform between lines. First, a shift register and a level shifter which are provided in the segment driver and a shift register and a level shifter which are provided in the common driver are driven to operate as usual, whereas a display control signal supplied from a controller causes output circuits to stop carrying out their respective output operations. In at least one embodiment, during a period in which a writing operation is carried out with respect to the liquid crystal display panel so as to carry out the display reset operation, the display control signal supplied from the controller allows the output circuits to carry out the respective output operations. This allows a memory (e.g., cholesteric) liquid crystal display device to carry out a display reset operation without causing display unevenness by simultaneously selecting a plurality of lines.

A liquid crystal display device comprising a liquid crystal layer including liquid crystal molecules provided between a first substrate and a second substrate; pixels forming a display area; electrodes for applying a voltage across the liquid crystal layer within each of the pixels; a plurality of domain regulating structures for dividing orientations of the liquid crystal molecules and forming multiple domains within each of the pixels, when a predetermined voltage is applied across the liquid crystal layer within each of the pixels. Liquid crystal display device

A liquid crystal display device includes a panel having pixel electrodes arranged at intersections of a plurality of signal lines via switching elements for transmitting display data and a plurality of scanning lines for transmitting control signals, and a control circuit for controlling the panel. The liquid crystal panel is divided into first pixel regions and second pixel regions adjacent to the first pixel regions. The control circuit carries out impulse driving in which the control signals transmitted to each of the scanning lines are activated two times in one frame period for displaying an image. The control circuit writes the display data in either one of the pixel regions and writes reset data in the other pixel regions when the control signals are activated once of the two times. By writing the reset data in the pixel regions, the display data written in an immediately preceding frame are reset. In consecutive frames, the display data written in the pixel regions are always reset in one frame period. Therefore, blurring in a moving image can be alleviated. Since writing the display data and the reset data is carried out separately in the first pixel regions and in the second pixel regions, flicker is prevented from occurring in a display screen.

A display device includes a liquid crystal display panel having a first and second substrates with scanning electrodes and data electrodes and a liquid crystal layer; a scanning electrode driving circuit applying to the scanning electrodes scan pulse; a data electrode driving circuit applying to the data electrodes data pulses having combinations of different voltage levels according to write data; and a driving control circuit supplying to the scanning and data electrode driving circuits a pulse control signal controlling the phase of the scan pulses and data pulses. A vertical alignment type liquid crystal display device including a plurality of pixels, which further includes a first substrate and a second substrate and a liquid crystal layer between the first substrate and the second substrate. The first substrate and the second substrate include alignment control structures which extend linearly, and when viewed in a direction vertical to the first substrate, in a pixel, the alignment control structure of the first substrate and the alignment control structures of the second substrate are arranged alternately. The alignment control structure of the first substrate includes first and second linear portions, and distances between the first and second linear portions and an adjacent alignment control structure of the second substrate are different from each other. Additionally, each of the first and second linear portions and the alignment control structures of the second substrate are arranged in parallel.

Vertically-alligned (VA) liquid crystal display device

The display device of the invention comprises a plurality of scanning lines (Wscan and Escan) which are selected successively, a plurality of data lines (Data) to which the writing electric current (Idata) in accordance with brightness information is supplied according to the scanning line selection, and a plurality of pixels (PX) arranged at intersecting points between the scanning lines and the data lines. Each of the pixels comprises a light emitting element (OLED), a driving transistor (TFT), a capacitor (C) connected to the gate (Nd) of the driving transistor for accumulating writing data, a first transistor (TFT) which is turned on during writing period in which the scanning lines are scanned and which connects the data lines and the drain of the driving transistor, and a second transistor (TFT) which is turned on during the writing period and which short-circuits the gate and drain of the driving transistor. With such a structure, the light emitting element can be driven with a driving electric current equivalent to the writing electric current, irrespective of variations in characteristics of the transistors.
