In a hose having a bent portion, a poor appearance part is prevented from being created in an inner round portion of the bent portion. A bent pipe has a bent portion located in an intermediate part in a longitudinal direction in which a cross section in a radial direction of a round of the bent portion is formed in a flat shape, and non-bent portions being continuous with the bent portion. The flat shape of the bent portion is a vertically long flat shape. With this configuration, when an unvulcanized hose is put on a mandrel and vulcanized, an inner round portion of the unvulcanized hose comes into tight contact with a bent portion of the mandrel and is not separated from the bent portion, so that the poor appearance part is hardly created in an inner round portion of the bent portion.

In an intake valve lift variable engine including: an engine body; a cylinder head; an intake valve which is disposed in the cylinder head and which is controlled to be open and close so as to regulate the amount of intake air; and an intake system having no throttle valve and connected to the cylinder head, blow-by gas is sucked from a crank case of the engine body into a first pump and pressurizingly transferred by the first pump to the side of the intake system, and purge gas from a canister is mixed into the blow-by gas pressurizingly transferred by the first pump. Thus, the blow-by gas and the purge gas are guided to the intake system.

In a variable stroke-characteristic engine for a vehicle, a control shaft and a control link are disposed on a front side of a vehicle body with respect to a crankshaft. An actuator for driving the control shaft is disposed on an outer surface of an engine block on the front side of the vehicle body. Thus, the actuator projects as much as possible from a position of the engine block toward the front side of the vehicle body so that traveling wind from ahead of the vehicle is effectively applied to the actuator to enhance the cooling effect. Hence, any temperature increase of the actuator is suppressed. Moreover, the actuator is disposed as far as possible from an exhaust manifold that is heated to a high temperature by the heat of an exhaust gas.
