A wheel bearing apparatus has an outer member, an inner member and double row rolling elements. A pulser ring is fit onto the inner ring. A second cap is fit on the inboard-side end of the outer member. A rotational speed sensor is mounted on the second cap. A cup-shaped first cap is press-fit into the inner circumference of an inboard-side end of the outer member. The first cap has a cylindrical fitting portion press-fit into the outer member. A disk portion extends radially inward from the fitting portion. The sensor abuts the disk portion. The second cap is press-fit into the inner circumference of an inboard-side end of the outer member via a predetermined interference.

Wheel bearing apparatus

A bearing apparatus for wheel with ensured high durability by including a part with improved fatigue strength in a non-hardened portion includes an outer member, an inner member, and a roller. The inner member includes a hub ring made of steel and having a wheel attachment flange formed. The hub ring has a hardened portion hardened to attain at least 50 HRC as a result of quench hardening and a non-hardened portion which is a portion other than the hardened portion. Compressive stress in a range from at least 50 MPa to at most 500 MPa remains in the surface of the non-hardened portion.

Bearing apparatus for wheel

A vehicle wheel bearing apparatus has an outer member formed, on its inner circumference, with double row outer raceway surfaces. An inner member includes a wheel hub integrally formed with a wheel mounting flange at its one end. The wheel hub outer circumference surface has double row inner raceway surfaces arranged opposite to the double row outer raceway surfaces. Double row balls are freely rollably contained between the outer raceway surfaces and inner raceway surfaces, respectively, of the outer member and the inner member. A pitch circle diameter of the double row ball group of the outer-side is larger than a pitch circle diameter of the double row ball group of the inner-side. At least the outer member and the wheel hub are formed of medium/high carbon steel including carbon of 0.40&#x2dc;0.80% by weight. The inner and outer raceway surfaces are formed, respectively, with predetermined hardened layers with a surface hardness of 58&#x2dc;64 HRC. The grain size number of austenite crystal grains of the metallographic structure in the hardened layers is selected larger than #7.

Wheel bearing apparatus for a vehicle

A wheel bearing apparatus has a cylindrical pilot portion adapted to be fit into a knuckle. The pilot portion has a first guiding portion and a second guiding portion. A fitting width (A) of the first guiding portion with the knuckle is set larger than a fitting width (B) of the second guiding portion with the knuckle (A&#x3e;B). An outer diameter Dof the first guiding portion is set smaller than an outer diameter Dof the second guiding portion (D&#x3c;D). A seal ring, in elastic contact with the inner circumference of the knuckle, is arranged on either one of the first or second guiding portions.

A drive wheel bearing device is provided with an outer member, an inner member, double-row rolling elements and a constant velocity joint. The inner member includes double-row inner races opposite outer races of the outer member, a first inner member, and a second inner member formed with at least one of the double-row inner races, the first inner member and the second inner member being inseparably coupled together at a flange-like swaged portion. The constant velocity joint includes an outer joint member press-fitted to an inner periphery of the first inner member with torque transmission means formed therebetween that transmits torque by engagement of a plurality of axially extending teeth, wherein the torque transmitting teeth of the first inner member have a tooth profile that is controlled within a specified range over the entire axial length of the teeth.

Drive wheel bearing device

A method for manufacturing a drive wheel bearing device is provided. During the manufacturing, a swaged portion is formed in a manner as a non-hardened region, and in a manner that variations based on a reference surface in the axial direction of the flat surface are restricted within +/&#x2212;0.2 mm. The reference surface is provided with an end face on an outboard side of a flange for an attachment of a wheel or an end face on an inboard side of the flange for attachment to a vehicle body. Part of the swaged portion making contact with an outer joint member of to drive wheel bearing device is formed into a flat surface. Serrations and a pilot part are formed on an inner periphery of a first inner member of the drive wheel bearing device. An inner peripheral surface of the pilot part is formed as a turned surface, and the turned surface has been turned after forming the swaged portion. A serrated shaft is formed on the outer joint member for transmitting torque to and from the first inner member through the serrations and an outer periphery surface opposing to the pilot part. A surface hardened layer is formed on the outer joint member by heat treatment in a region that includes at least the serrated shaft.

Method for manufacturing a drive wheel bearing device

There is provided a wheel support bearing assembly in which at least one of the outer member () and inner member, which includes a wheel mounting flange (), is, after having been forged, air cooled or thermally refined. The respective rolling surfaces of the outer member () and the inner member are hardened to have a predetermined surface hardness. The root radial dimension of the section of a groove bottom arc in the serrations () of the hub unit () is regulated to a value within the range of 0.2 mm to 0.8 mm.

Wheel bearing and a bearing apparatus for a wheel of vehicle of semi-floating type having the wheel bearing

In an assembly of retainers and tapered rollers to be easily incorporated into an outer ring having a rib portion on an inner peripheral surface on an outboard side thereof, recesses are formed in a large end surface and a small end surface of an outboard side tapered roller. Projections to be inserted into the recesses are formed in an outboard side retainer. A diameter of a circumcircle of the tapered rollers before they are inserted into a hub ring is smaller than an inner diameter of a rib portion. When a hub ring is inserted into the outer ring, the tapered rollers move in a radial direction to cause the diameter of the circumcircle to be greater than the inner diameter dimension of the rib portion, and as a result, the tapered rollers can be received in a specified position.

Bearing device for wheel

A wheel bearing device includes a hub ring, a double-row bearing and a constant velocity universal joint which are unitized together. At least one of double-row inner raceways of the bearing and a wheel mounting flange are formed on a hub ring. The hub ring and a stem portion of a joint outer ring of the constant velocity universal joint are fitted through a torque transmission assembly, wherein a pilot member as a separate element having a wheel guide portion and a brake guide portion is fitted to a side-end portion of the wheel mounting flange of the hub ring, and the hub ring and the pilot member are fixed to the joint outer ring by swaging.

A vehicle wheel bearing apparatus has an outer member formed, on its inner circumference, with double row outer raceway surfaces. An inner member is formed on its outer circumference surface, with double row inner raceway surfaces arranged opposite to the double row outer raceway surfaces. Double ball groups are freely rollably contained between the outer raceway surfaces and inner raceway surfaces, respectively, of the outer member and the inner member. It is formed as a double row angular contact ball bearing of back-to-back duplex type where a predetermined contacting angle is applied to each ball. A pitch circle diameter of the outer-side ball group is larger than a pitch circle diameter of the inner-side ball group. The outer-side groove diameter of curvature ratios are smaller than inner-side groove diameter of curvature ratios.

A wheel support bearing assembly includes an outer member inserted in a knuckle, an inner member made up of a hub axle, double rows of rolling elements, and a cover closing an opening of one end of the outer member. The cover includes a sensor connector and a sensor cap. A pulsar ring is mounted on the inner race and a rotation sensor is opposed to the pulsar ring and embedded in the sensor connector. The cover extends over an outer surface of the sensor connector. The cover has a cylindrical portion mounted in an inner peripheral surface of one end of the outer member, which end forms a pilot portion for the knuckle. The cylindrical portion of the cover has an outer periphery provided with an annular elastic member held in contact with an inner peripheral surface of the knuckle.

Bearing assembly having rotation sensor and mounting structure to support sensor cap and connector

A vehicle wheel bearing apparatus has a double row angular ball bearing including double rows of ball groups. A pitch circle diameter of the double row ball group of the outer side is larger than a pitch circle diameter of the double row ball group of the inner side. The outer member is made of medium carbon steel including carbon of 0.40&#x2dc;0.80% by weight. It is hardened by high frequency induction quenching so that each of the outer raceway surfaces is formed with a hardened layer having a surface hardness of 58&#x2dc;64 HRC. The effective depth of hardened layer is set at at least 2 mm. The minimum wall thickness of the outer member at these outer raceway surfaces is set at at least 4 mm.
