A liquid crystal display device includes a liquid crystal display panel including a plurality of pixels, and a control circuit configured to generate a source signal voltage supplied to each pixel. The liquid crystal display panel includes an active matrix substrate including a pixel electrode applied with a source signal voltage and a common electrode applied with a common voltage. The common voltage and the source signal voltage corresponding to each gradation are set such that a source-common center difference at least one of lowest and highest gradation levels is greater than the source-common center difference at least some of the other gradation levels. A degree of symmetry of a gradation level voltage is equal to or lower than 95% at least at one of gradation levels equal to or lower than a 127/255-th gradation level except for the lowest gradation level.

A display device includes a color filter substrate, an array substrate, a liquid crystal layer, a protection layer, and a plurality of main spacers. The color filter substrate includes a display region, a hole frame region, and a hole region. Liquid crystal display device

A display device includes a display panel and imaging means. The display panel includes a first substrate, a second substrate, and an electrooptical substance layer between the first and second substrates. The display panel has a first substrate side as an external light entering side and is partitioned into a display area and a non-display area. The non-display area includes a light-transmitting area through which the external light entering the display panel is transmitted toward a second substrate side of the display panel. The imaging means is disposed on the second substrate side so as to receive the external light transmitting through the light-transmitting area, and a short-wavelength-light absorption layer capable of absorbing light having a wavelength shorter than visible light is disposed on the external light entering side with respect to the electrooptical substance layer and the short-wavelength-light absorption layer extends over an entire area of the light-transmitting area.

A method for fabricating a liquid crystal display device includes providing an LCD panel that includes a photopolymerizable compound in its liquid crystal layer; and forming alignment sustaining layers by polymerizing the photopolymerizable compound in the liquid crystal layer of the LCD panel with the liquid crystal layer irradiated with light and supplied with a voltage simultaneously. The forming the alignment sustaining layers includes the steps of: i) applying a predetermined voltage between a pixel electrode and a counter electrode while a switching element is in ON state; and ii) changing the voltage at a storage capacitor counter electrode into a voltage, of which the polarity is opposite to a voltage at the storage capacitor counter electrode in the step i), after the switching element in ON state has been turned OFF.

A liquid crystal display device includes an active matrix substrate, a counter substrate, a liquid crystal layer arranged between the active matrix substrate and the counter substrate and a capacitive touch panel. The counter substrate is thinner than the active matrix substrate and the capacitive touch panel is arranged on the surface of the active matrix substrate opposite the liquid crystal layer.

One embodiment of the present invention provides a liquid crystal display device in which auxiliary capacitance lines are driven, thereby allowing the range of drive voltage to be kept narrow while increasing the difference between the maximum and minimum absolute values of voltage to be applied to liquid crystal, and in the present liquid crystal display device, the voltage ranges for an auxiliary capacitance line drive signal, a video signal, and a common potential are equally maintained as low as from 0V to 4V, while inverting the common potential every scanning period and causing the potential of the auxiliary capacitance line drive signal to rise in the same direction as the common potential at the time of the fall of the scanning signal such that the potential is maintained until the next frame. With this configuration, it is possible to set the maximum absolute value of the voltage applied to the liquid crystal at about 5V, which corresponds to an effective value of the applied voltage, while setting the minimum value at about 1.5V, which is also an effective value of the applied voltage, thereby increasing the difference between the maximum and minimum values.

Liquid crystal display device and method for driving same

A display device according to the present invention contains a transparent display unit () and a reflective display unit () in one pixel. The reflective display unit () is provided with an insulating layer () constituting a multi-gap layer, and a pixel electrode () and a common electrode () set closer to a display surface than a reflective film () at least through the insulating layer. The reflective film () is provided on the same plane as the insulating layer () in the lower substrate () and covered with the insulating layer (), or provided in a lower layer than the insulating layer () in the lower substrate () and overlapped with the insulating layer ().

A liquid crystal display device includes: pixel electrodes arranged in columns and rows, each including a reflective electrode region; scanning lines; and signal lines. The device sequentially supplies a scanning signal voltage to one of the scanning lines after another to select one group of pixel electrodes, connected to the same one of the scanning lines, after another, and then supplies display signal voltages to the selected group of pixel electrodes by way of the signal lines, thereby displaying an image thereon. The pixel electrodes are arranged such that the polarity of a voltage to be applied to a liquid crystal layer is inverted for every predetermined number of pixel electrodes in each of the rows and in each of the columns. The display signal voltage to be supplied to each pixel electrode is updated at a frequency of 45 Hz or less.

Liquid crystal display with transmission and reflection regions

Each signal line enters a preliminary polarity inversion period prior to a normal polarity inversion period so as to be inverted to the opposite polarity. By the preliminary polarity inversion a signal line on a border of blocks experiences a potential hike and the potential oscillates, which, however, is restored later by the application of a correct potential in the normal polarity inversion period. When transferring data per block, the problem of different potential states between the border of the blocks and an area surrounding it, which is caused by the potential oscillation of the signal line on the border of the blocks, is relieved.

Data transfer method, image display device and signal line driving circuit, active-matrix substrate

A signal line and a pixel capacitor wire that doubles as a pixel capacitor electrode are fabricated parallel to each other from the same electrode layer through patterning thereof. Therefore, no additional steps are required to form the pixel capacitor wire. In such an arrangement, the pixel capacitor wire and the signal line are disposed parallel to each other; therefore, delays of signal transmission in the signal line and crosstalk between pixels are prevented from occurring. The active matrix substrate incorporating this arrangement is suitably used in liquid crystal display devices, image sensors, and the like. Similar advantages are available with an arrangement in which the signal line and the pixel capacitor wire are disposed parallel to each other, and the storage capacitor electrode, which will constitute a storage capacitor with the pixel electrode therebetween, and the scanning line are fabricated from the same electrode layer through patterning thereof.

Active matrix substrate, method of manufacturing the same, and image sensor incorporating the same

In an image display device which employs pulse width modulation driving, a voltage which is less than a voltage supplied to signal lines is applied to pixel electrodes. Tones are displayed by shifting phases of waveforms of the signal lines and scanning lines, and polarities of pixels in a signal line direction are inverted alternately. This prevents increase in power consumption which is caused by pulse intervals which become too small at high tone levels, in addition to preventing change in tone level due to external factors such as temperature, or signal delays in a driver or wiring.

A method of driving source lines is arranged as follows: One output signal line Sof a source driver is connected to a plurality of lines corresponding to respective source lines SRthrough SB, and these source lines from SR(starting data line) to SB(terminating data line) are grouped as one block (group). In each block, a signal voltage of a divided output is supplied to the source lines during a first horizontal period T, while a signal voltage whose polarity is opposite to that of the aforesaid output is supplied to the source lines in a second horizontal period that is after the first horizontal period. In each of the horizontal periods, the source lines SRthrough SBare subjected to sequential selection. In addition to this, the source line SBis selected before turning the source line SRoff. With this, a method of driving source lines, which can restrain (eliminate) the voltage variation on each source line and pixel electrode on account parasitic capacities between source lines, can be realized.
