An electronic pasting method for pasting electronic data in consideration of printed and written data, including updating pasted data when electronic data is updated after it is pasted. The electronic pasting method uses a detecting unit and a paste information updating unit. The detecting unit detects a paste stroke made over two print sheets filled to denote a user's pasting action with which part or whole of a printed matter of electronic document information is pasted on printed matter, then detects the pasting action from a set of paste strokes, thereby obtaining a paste-from document, a paste-to document, and a paste position according to the pasting action detected by the detecting unit. The paste information updating unit updates the e-document, the printed matter information, and the written information according to the above paste information.

Document management system and its method

For hierarchical data including tuples each including a combination of different data types and lists each listing data of a same data type, corresponding attribute-based data divided by attribute is stored in attribute-based files whereas information on the structure of the hierarchical data is held as schema information. The schema information includes data type information on the hierarchical data structure, including data type information on each element of each tuple and data type information on only a top element of each list. The attribute-based files storing the attribute-based data are managed to be in order by a file name management table. Data on each attribute is stored in a file in a state of being hierarchized in a list format corresponding to the depth at which the each attribute is listed in the schema information. When performing analysis processing: a required attribute is specified; files of only the specified attribute are opened; the initial data structure is restored using the schema information; and data analysis processing is performed.

Data processing device and method

This invention provides an efficient image processing apparatus having merits as the handiness and visibility of paper and the multi-functionality of a computer, enabling trial and error with paper media without capturing all images previously. The apparatus comprises an image capturing unit for electronically capturing paper images by a photo-sensor; an image editing unit for editing such as clipping of partial image or scaling; a user interface unit for receiving user's commands regarding the image editing; an image memory unit for storing; and an image display unit for displaying the images in the image memory unit. An image displaying function is provided on a transparent plane. Photo-sensors are on the plane, and image capturing unit and image display unit are integrated to form an image capturing and display unit. A user gains an operability compatible with human instinct, ignoring a difference between paper and electronic medium.

Image processing apparatus

Provided is an information management method for use in an information management system that includes a coordinate pointing device for identifying a paper medium, and a contents server for managing a digital document, and holds an attribute of the digital document and an attribute of a paper document obtained by printing the digital document on the paper medium, the information management method comprising: judging whether a paper document identified by the coordinate pointing device is a master of a document by referring to an attribute of the paper document; and permitting, when it is judged that the identified paper document is the master of the document, to update information annotated to the identified paper document in a digital document corresponding to the paper document to which the information has been annotated.

Information management method and information management system

A device for recording positions within an electronic document and capable of recreating those recorded positions afterwards even if the electronic document has been changed to some extent. An index data creation unit in an information terminal creates index information for a page to display from the electronic document, and records it along with time information in an index database. When a time is specified, the index data search unit searches the index database for index information recorded near that time, and identifies the page position of that electronic document from the searched index information. A data display unit displays the beginning of the electronic document at the identified position. The information terminal is capable of managing information by linking electronic data from handwritten information written on paper with a digital pen, with the display page the electronic document by utilizing a stroke set database and a pen data processor.

Device, a program and a system for managing electronic documents

A digital pen-based application form filling system with a modification prevention function, which eliminates a possibility that digital information initially written in digital paper using a digital pen may be modified deliberately or accidentally. The system prints a new fine pattern over areas in already written digital paper whose contents one wishes to protect against being modified. This printing adds a fine pattern to an original dot pattern already present on the digital paper to make it theoretically impossible to enter information into these areas using the digital pen.

Application system with function for preventing modification

When a filling person fills in a document using an electronic pen, a system refers to a document information file forming a history information file and an electronic pen information file. A judging part of the system judges the presence or absence of an entry authority over the document on the basis of the pen ID of the electronic pen and the electronic pen information file. The judging part judges an entry sequence to the document on the basis of the pen ID, a document ID applied to the document, and the document information file. A judged result is transmitted from a creating part via a communication controller to the electronic pen.

A method and a machine for generating a dictionary of address phrase expressions. One embodiment of the invention includes an apparatus for generating a dictionary of target phrases that includes an input interface for receiving as its input a first address phrase included in a list of address phrase expressions, a memory for storing a dictionary of address phrase variants, including rules for generating variants of address phrase expressions, and a processing device for generating variants of address phrases which generates a second address phrase which is different in expression from the first address phrase to output the second address phrase to a storage device holding the dictionary of target phrases, based on the input first address phrase, and the knowledge of rules about variants included in the dictionary of address phrase variants.

Place name expressing dictionary generating method and its apparatus

A sign language telephone device is offered which enables an aurally handicapped person who uses the sign language to converse with a normal person at a distant place who does not know the sign language. The sign language telephone device is placed on the side of the aurally handicapped person, and hand gestures of the sign language inputted from a sign language input means are recognized as the sign language, and the recognized sign language is translated to Japanese. The translated Japanese word train is converted to synthesized voices and it is transmitted to a videophone on the side of a normal person. The voices from the videophone are recognized, and the recognized Japanese is translated to the sign language to generate sign language animations and they are displayed on the screen of a TV set on the side of the aurally handicapped person. According to the present invention, it is made possible for an aurally handicapped person to have conversation easily with a normal person at a distant place who does not know the sign language through an existing network.
